Glenn William Smoot

Glenn William Smoot, age 82, passed away on August 29, 2007, at his home in Richland, WA.

Glenn was born in rural Centralia, MO, July 8, 1925, to Harry and Leona Turner Smoot. Glenn grew up on the family farm alongside his sister and three brothers, all now deceased.

Glenn enlisted in the U.S. Navy on July 3, 1943, at the age of 17. He was discharged Oct 20, 1947. He served 54 months in the Asiatic Pacific and American areas.

Glenn married Alma Alice Woods in Fulton, MO, on Oct. 8, 1948. They lived on 509 West Love St., Mexico, MO for 11Ú2 years, then moved to Leshara, Nebraska, where he was a mechanic at an alfalfa milling company. They then moved to Kamiah, Idaho, where he was employed by Twin Feathers Lumber Co. as a maintenance man. In December, Glenn's career with nuclear facilities began and continued across our country. Glenn and Alma made many friends as they served the Lord wherever the job took them.

Glenn retired from General Electric on June 30, 1989, and returned to Richland, WA in Nov. 1996. Glenn enjoyed woodworking, cribbage and helping Alma with anything to do with quilting. His dog, Max, was his best buddy, and they made many friends on their daily walks throughout our neighborhood.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Alma, of 59 years; sons, Bill L. Smoot, Benton City, WA; Daniel T. Smoot, wife Susan, Finley, WA; and daughter, Juanita L. Smoot, Southern Pine, N.C.; five grandsons; 4 great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; a sister-in-law, Doris Smoot, Kennewick, WA; plus several nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Glenn's Life will be on Sept. 22, 2007 at 1 p.m. at Kennewick Baptist Church at 2425 W. Albany Ave, Kennewick, WA. Contributions may be made to the Tri-City Chaplaincy Hospice or leukemia research.
