Cherie Malone Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 10, 2024.
Cherie Malone, age 79, a resident of Olathe Kansas and formerly Linwood Kansas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 7th, 2024, after a brave and valiant fight against cancer.

Cherie was born February 8th, 1945 to Herb and Ruth Lodge. Cherie was a 1963 graduate of Olathe High school, and attended Pittsburg State and the University of Kansas, before marrying her husband of 58 years, Gene Malone, on April 15, 1966.

Cherie's life revolved around her faith, family, friends, and service. She was a long-time member of Tonganoxie Christian Church, and upon moving back to Olathe in 2018, attended Lenexa Baptist Church. Cherie was also a member of the Johnson County Young Matrons (JCYM), where she served in various roles for the past six years.

Cherie loved her friends, fishing, playing Mah Jongg, Bible Study, cheering on her Jayhawks, and spending time with her family. One of her greatest joys was being with and supporting her grandchildren in their many activities.

One of Cherie's last examples of her selfless giving was to donate her body to the University of Kansas Willed Body Program, which assists in the training of future medical professionals.

Cherie is proceeded in death by her beloved sister Betty (Lodge) Melton. She is survived by her loving husband Gene Malone, her brother Chuck Lodge and his wife Jodi, her children Deryck Malone and his wife Sarah, Scott Malone and his wife Sarah, Susan (Malone) Buckles and her husband Dan and her grandchildren Annie and Jack Buckles, Grant and Connor Malone and Tanner Schupp, as well as nieces and nephews and their families.

Family and friends are invited to gather October 6th from 1-3pm to celebrate her life and legacy at the Cedar Creek Clubhouse, located at 25775 W. 103rd St., Olathe KS. 66061.

When Cherie and Gene moved to Cedar Creek I greeted them with a welcome house warming gift and an invitation to our home to introduce them to several of our friends and neighbors. They were immediate dear friends joining all of the clubs and groups. Cherie commented, "I will participate as long as it doesn't conflict with our family gatherings". She was devoted to her family and a true example of Christianity. We will dearly miss her. Love to her husband Gene and dear family. God bless you, Phil and Johnnye Summerson

Cherie was always a joy to visit with. A conversation with her always brought a smile and a laugh as she would share family updates, including about my brother, a nephew-in-law. You could tell how much she loved her family from how she spoke of them.

I first met Cherie in 1959 when I moved to Olathe with my mother and step-father. I remember Cherie as always having a smile on her face for anyone who was around her. She invited me to a Methodist Youth Group our Sophomore year in High School. I believe the seed was planted there that eventually led to my accepting Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. I moved at the end of that year but will always have fond memories of the several years I spent in Olathe. Karen Berschauer Beem

My memory of Cherie was this prescious little cheer leader when I was in 7th grade. She was the upper class, and we all looked up to that class. She was always full of energy and friendly. Thinking of Gene and his kids and grandkids. God bless you

Cherie loved the Lord, her family and friends. She always had a smile on her face. Her life was a testimony to her committment to Jesus Christ and his teachings. I am forever grateful and will treasure always the brief time we had together. Rest in the arms of Jesus my friend.

Cherie was the cutest sweetest person I have ever known. She was a ray of sunshine and joy. Never met a stranger. Had a great trip with she and Gene to Cabo San Lucas. Will miss her so much.
