Cherie Maxine Taylor (née Griffin), affectionately known as Maxine, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024, in Orange Park, Florida, at the age of 81. Born on November 26, 1942, in West Point, Georgia, Maxine embarked on a journey that saw her become a beacon of intelligence, independence, and kindness.

Maxine's early life was marked by her academic journey at Barry University, which laid the foundation for her future endeavors. She proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 to 1962, a brief but significant period that reflected her dedication and resilience. Professionally, Maxine excelled in the field of government administration, where her formidable presence and sharp intellect were greatly valued.

Beyond her professional and military service, Maxine was deeply devoted to her family. She was a loving wife to her late husband, Richard G. Taylor, and a nurturing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family, including her daughter Janet Harbaugh (David), son Hugh Johnson Jr. (Vikki), daughter-in-law Becky Taylor, grandchildren Crystal MacDonald (Matthew), David Harbaugh Jr., Nicholas Smith (Amanda), Chelsea Johnson (Scotty), Matthew Taylor (Casey), Andrew Taylor (Kerri), and Jonathan Taylor, and 9 great-grandchildren, remember her as a loving and powerful presence in their lives.

Maxine's interests included playing cards, traveling, and spending time on the water, activities that brought her immense joy and relaxation. Her life was a blend of duty, love, and adventure, making her a memorable and cherished figure among all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Maxie Griffin and Thelma Rudy; step-father John Rudy; husband Richard G. Taylor; stepson Richard W. Taylor; and brothers Wayne, David, Ronnie, and Freddie Griffin.
