Cherryl Hottman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 24, 2023.
In Loving Memory of Cherryl Ann Hottman
Cherryl Hottman, born on September 26th, 1960, in San Jose, California, embarked on her next adventure on Thanksgiving Day, November 23rd, 2023, passing away in Tualatin, Oregon surrounded by family.
She was the beloved daughter of Clarisse Rita Granata and the late Darrell Roy Hottman, and the eldest sister to Lee Jane Assaf, Hugh Gregg Hottman, Sondra Bazzoti and Joshua Hottman.
Cherryl's life was a vibrant tapestry of passions and pursuits. From her early days in San Jose to her daring move to Alaska, she embraced life with a sense of adventure that defined her journey. Cherryl's love for her family was evident in her roles as a supportive wife, a caring sister, and a wonderful aunt to her various nieces and nephews. Cherryl was a guiding force in the upbringing of her stepson Hunter Shumard. Her love, care, and wisdom were instrumental in shaping his character, helping him cope with the world, stand up for himself, express his emotions, and respect and enjoy life.
Her artistic spirit was not only confined to textiles and fashion but also echoed through the melody of music. Cherryl had a profound love for music, finding joy in the harmonies of Hozier, the rhythms of Fleetwood Mac, and the melodies of Howard Jones. Her eclectic taste and appreciation for music added a symphonic layer to the richness of her interests.
Cherryl's love for historical fiction (especially Outlander), her appreciation for art (especially Van Gogh), and her joy in watching parades and the annual Mass at the Vatican showcased her diverse interests. Her sense of humor, often expressed in sly comments that brought tears of laughter, was a source of joy for all who knew her.
As a devoted wife to David Shumard, Cherryl played a pivotal role in supporting his educational journey. Together, they dreamed of a future filled with travels to Sicily, Scotland, Greece, and France-a dream that spoke of shared aspirations and a deep connection. Cherryl's passing marks not an end but a transition to her next chapter, an adventure beyond our earthly comprehension.
Cherryl's exceptional organizational skills and unwavering support played a vital role in our lives. We fondly composed the "Cherryl's Right" ditty – a melody that echoed through the house whenever she proved Right (always.) This we would sing in resolute cacophony and with encore if called upon with tickled delight.
Cherryl's passing was not an end but a release to her next adventure. Her belief, and that of her family, that life extends beyond this realm shapes the way we remember her. Let us celebrate the richness of Cherryl's life, the love she shared, and the legacy of warmth, creativity, and joy that she leaves behind. May her spirit continue to inspire us as we carry her memory in our hearts.
In lieu of traditional services, Cherryl's life will be continuously celebrated in the coming days, a testament to the enduring impact she had on those who knew her. Rather than seeking rest, Cherryl is off to her next great story, and her spirit will forever be woven into the narratives of those whose lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to "Cat Adoption Team" C.A.T. of Sherwood, Oregon.
May Cherryl's laughter echo in our memories, her artistry inspire our creativity, and her adventurous spirit guide us in our own journeys. Her story lives on in our hearts, an eternal celebration of a life well-lived.

My deepest condolences to Cherryl´s Husband, Mama and Family. My heart goes out to you all. David, we love you dear friend and will always be here for you. I have had lifelong issues with keeping in touch with people but Cherryl was my bestest friend and tolerated my quirky ways, and even though we didn´t talk all the time, when we did talk or get together it´s like no time had ever passed. She had a laugh like no other and we have shared so many laughs and tears over the years that i have a lifetime of great memories of her. I just wish i would have had one more hug... Cherry with an L, I love and miss you so much.

Cherryl Ann was my cousin whom I was very close growing up until about age 13. We would laugh and laugh and shared everything. I loved her like a sister. We met up again in 2009 during Doug´s passing. We immediately regained that closeness. Since then we intermittently kept touch through texts and every year I would receive a birthday wish from Cherryl. She told me my birthday was easiest to remember. This world lost a shining star but I know she´s still shining in the next. I´ll miss you Cherryl and always will have our childhood memories. Love, Dee Dee

As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.

My memories of my auntie are that of peace and love. I knew her to be a carer of my family named hunter, who at young age was reading huge books about dragons. I'm certain Eragon was in the title.

I will forever miss her bright smile that shone like the sun. The weeks leading uo to her passing were dark and gloomy. But right after her death the sun shone so bright I could feel Cherryls warmth radiating from the sun. I could feel her smile even though I couldnt see it. We will forever miss you.

I will always remember her beautiful smile that shines like the sun. The days leading up to her passing it was dark and gloomy but when she died the sun shone so bright. I just know that she is with everyone she has lost and she is eternally happy.
