Cheryl Boren Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 14, 2023.
Cheryl Boren, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Friend and overall amazing person passed away on July 23rd at the age of 82. The world is a little less bright without Cheryl in it.

Cheryl was a wonderful person who touched the lives of so many people with both her unbridled kindness and generous spirit. She had an overwhelming force of happiness about her that brought joy to every get together. She would sometimes shriek with excitement about the pure thrill of just being alive. She never had an unkind word to say about anyone and never held a grudge, even in the most difficult circumstances. Every place she touched - working at various schools, playing bridge, traveling, the Navajo Inn, the Elks - she would befriend absolutely anyone and through the years would create close friendships with so many. She demonstrated in its truest form accepting and celebrating individuals for who they are.

Cheryl was incredibly proud of her sons, their wives and her granddaughters. She bragged about them to anyone who would listen. She loved her friends deeply and remained committed to them throughout her life. Some of these close friends she had known since high school. Tim, one of her high school friends, later became the love of her life. They spent an incredible 5 years together traveling, dining out, debating, playing bridge and simply loving each other. Tim was instrumental in caring for Cheryl during her illness and his support and commitment reflected his deep love for her.

Cheryl was a truly unique character in so many ways and will be remembered for her love of Moscato (and all cheap wine!), her giant purses, the broken reading glasses that she always wore, her daily NY Times crossword puzzles, her many hats, colorful jewelry and clothes, and of course, the mannequin in her living room that she dressed up for holidays.

She was a renowned cat lover who always had at least 4 cats roaming around her house, peaking at 9 at one point. Everyone knew that if they found a cat that needed a home, they should take it to Cheryl.

Cheryl was an avid and accomplished bridge player who would often play tournaments several days per week. She loved going to the casino to play Paigow Poker, was a voracious reader, loved movies and thoroughly enjoyed playing any type of game, especially if she won. She truly enjoyed any sort of challenge or competition.

All these things and so much more made Cheryl a truly special human being

She was taken from us much too soon but faced the end with a valor and kindness one can only hope to emulate. We miss Cheryl every day and will never forget her never ending smile and infectious laugh. We all love you and thank you for the love and happiness you brought to our lives.

We are celebrating Cheryl's life on September 2nd at 1 PM. All are welcome to join in Cheryl's celebration, share memories and laughs, and drink the cheap white wine she loved so much. Wear bright colors, a big hat and bring a fan in her honor (we have some)! The celebration will be held at 4405 Leon St. San Diego, CA 92107 in Sunset Cliffs. Text or call her son Sean at 858-437-1665 with any questions. We would appreciate an RSVP with a text to Sean.

What a lady! Courageous, smart, fiercely independent, loyal, generous, kind, and loving! It was a deep privilege and a true honor to have known Cheryl and to have been a part of her family. We will remember her joy and celebration of the everyday... And we will never forget her laugh!
