Cheryl J Powell

I knew Ms. Powell as a youngster growing up on Carolina Ave. In Hempstead, N.Y. Her family moved, nevertheless our families contacted each other occasionally. I pray for the repose of her soul. Katy (LeSesne) Cassil.

I can't believe this. It hurts so much to know Cheryl's gone. She was a major part of my childhood, through high school. Then somehow we lost touch. I made up my mind to find her and surprise her for her birthday. We were born only 3 weeks apart. She was my opposite and my twin at the same time, the one with the big imagination and no fear, not one shred. She showed me how to blow up aerosol cans and came up with the best practical jokes. She loved dogs and horror movies on Saturday afternoons. We had a very friendly competition in all things school, from second grade. Until physics at LuHi. She aced physics, and I was in awe! I wish I could find the picture of Cheryl with her super fro and full length leather coat (in high school). Cheryl was the best. The best.
My deepest condolences to Barbara and her whole family. May she rest in peace and forever be a light.

Your passion for caring for the underserved will always be remembered! Thank you for all that you did for your patients and trainees like myself who looked up to you!

Sending my love, prayers, and deepest condolences to Barbara and the Powell family. I'm so grateful that I got to experience just a little bit of Aunt Cheryl's greatness. From the moment Barbara introduced me, she celebrated my accomplishments and encouraged me in my education and career. She welcomed me for visits to her home and was my unofficial Aunt. She will be missed, but she definitely made her impact on the world. She was accomplished in all areas of her life. Praying that God gives you all peace as you celebrate her life and adjust to life without her.

Dr. Cheryl Powell was my friend and colleague who trained with me at Howard University Hospital. She was such compassionate and caring physician and a fun-loving friend. I will miss her beautiful smile. My condolences to her family. May God comfort you and give you peace.

Dr. Cheryl Powell was a special and caring person. She was so kind to me and supportive when I worked in the Ophthalmology Department at King/Drew Medical Center.
