I'm in denial that it's been 10 years already. Seems like just yesterday we were joking, and laughing within the hallways of the courthouse. I'm not in denial about the impact, and groundbreaking feats you were on your way to accomplishing because you had already laid the foundation. Your light was dimmed to soon, but I know in heaven, your illumination is blinding. You're sorely missed, but fondly remembered.

Merner Hall 1992, Chiquita had to be one of the feistiest girls on the second floor. I don't know how, but we conncected. When I was sad she tried to make me feel better and when it was time to have fun she was really good at that too. For twelve years we supported each other and shared almost everything. I loved her then and I will always love her.

Tate Family,

I met Chiquita in 9th grade at Baton Rouge High. We immediately became friends. I hadn't seen her in over 15 or more years, but I remember her like it was yesterday. She would always call me glamour girl - I have no idea why??? But, I will never forget it. We only spent a year together, but seemed longer because she transferred to another school. I wish I had bumped into her one last time just to say "Hey girl. We did it!" She will be missed! You have my deepest sympathy! God bless you and may God heal your heart.

To the Tate Family: I am deeply moved by the lost that you share, the community shares and people across the nation. I live in Phoenix, AZ and was touched when my Mother told me of this incident. I was hurt even more to know that I have a friend in Mrs. Hughes that shares in your grief as well. Being away from home (Baton Rouge, LA) its hard to hear of bad news. She is in a better place now, in heaven, and shall shine her light upon us all now. I will continue to pray that justice is served in the swiftest way. Stay strong family and May God Bless You All!

Chiquita.....You were our sister, our strength and our pride...Only God may know why. We would've known that you had to go, but so suddenly, so bad.Now that you're gone, everyday we go on, life just want be the same. Your loss has deeply sadden us, you will be truely missed. Having you as a part of our lives was more than just enjoyable, it was like having the perfect friend. We know no one is perfect, but girlfriend you were close to it. The times we all shared together were always meaningful. And the love you generated toward us was so heartfelt. Keeta we are really gonna miss you. Girls Night Out, Our lil Trips, Hour of Power and just talk time in general will never be the same. It's so hard to say goodbye to yesterday, for tomorrow is a new day: a day our friend, our girl, our "dawg" , our bff, will begin her journey with the Lord. We love you, but God loves you most. Watch over us. Our Angel Now.... You will forever be in our hearts.......

March 2, 2009

To the Tate family, Mrs. Danita, I am so sorry to hear about your lost. But it seems like God is only taking the best. It's not our time, but I can assure you, that it is right on time. The world is changing and for our kids sake we have to make sure that they are prayed up. Now your sister was a server for the community, now she's an angel in heaven. There is a time an a season for everything, there is nothing new under the sun, everything is already been, there is nothing new under the sun. You will find that in Ecclesiates, Chapter 3. Read it sometimes for comfort. And now the healing begans. God will be your comforter and I will continue to be your friend. I lost a sister also, so I sat in that same seat you sat in, so I can assure you, that this to shall pass. Time is the only venture now. So let it work itself out and you will be fine. Your sister have a lot of people that loved her, so that alone should be a comforter. That's the good part, leaving a legacy of Love. So friend, let the memory of Mrs. Chiquiata Tate-Harris be a joyus one. Sleep on Chiquita and take your rest, yes we loved you, but God loved you best.

Sandra Sterling (Bootsy Baby)

March 2, 2009

Danita, I am so sorry to hear about your lost, but earth has no sorry that heaven can't heal. I didn't know your sister but I know what it's like to loose a sister. This reminds me of someone else who lost a loved one, God. But the prophecy had to be fullfilled. The bible says we will see our loved ones again. We will reconize them as sisters and brothers and we all will have one Father. So look towards the hills which cometh your strenght. It is when we are weak that God cares most. I know it hurt, but this to shall pass. Just hold on to Gods unchanging hands. We need Him now, so lets pray together and God says if two or more pray together He will be in the midst. I talk to the living, because the bible says everything ends at the grave. So we will see your sister again, just like the bible says. I love you and stay strong.

March 1, 2009

My condolences to the Family. I may be one of Chiquita's first clients referred to her by one of her friends who mentioned my case being a "good case for her" being that she was newly licensed. Now that I recollect her professionalism, vivacious spirit, and dynamism....I can truly say she was "good for my case". My son was being expelled from a high school in a rural area. I spoke with Chiquita briefly over the phone and she was immediately interested and never did she question me about my son's character. Her job was to defend him and that she took seriously. I remember her asking me to bring the school's rights handbook to her the morning of the hearing. When I handed it to her she flipped to a section, read for a brief second and left it on the seat of her car. We proceded to the hearing. I remember Chiquita reciting that handbook as if she wrote it, leaving the school personnel speechless, not to mention sweating immensely. She was phenomenal. When we left we embraced one another. I was so grateful and thankful to her but mostly to my Father in heaven, because I know HE was in the midst of it all. From the beginning of the incident, I knew whose hands to put it in and HE prepared us for the victory. Ms. Tate was an integral part of that victory. She wouldn't even take money from us for her time or gas. She just blessed us and indeed she was a blessing. My son was asked to return to school immediately. He even told me the principal could not look him in the face the remainder of that year. The love of Christ was in her heart and it stood out. I believe she was walking in destiny. And she walked in it with grace. I will always remember the power behind her words as she defended our child's rights, the heartfelt smile that she left us with. I share this story with her friends, family, colleagues, and others because I want you all to know that because of God's grace she did with ease what many of us strive to do. She made a positive impact in the lives of many, many people. She earned her crown. I am delighted to have known her.
May GOD give you all strength in your time of sorrow. Be encouraged. Our prayers are with you all.

All Things work together for the good of them that love the Lord and is called according to his purpose.... Something good has to come out of this, we don't understand right now but God takes the foolish things to confound the wise. I only had a few encounters with Chiquita and Greg but they were very pleasant. They were my back door neighbors and noticed that I was having trouble in my marriage and finances. They offered their help without reserve and would not take no for an answer, they didn't know me from anyone else and offered to help me in the time of need. Chiquita use to meet me at the fence, she watched my home when I was going through some domestic abuse problems to ensure my safety and I love her for that. She was a guardian angel. I told my story to my friends when she and Greg helped me and my friends called to make sure I was alright, that is just how much she impacted my life. She will be missed but God needed her most. Soldier in God's Army... The battle is not ours... Keeping you and your family in my heart, Miracles and Blessing be unto the Tate and Harris family.

Chiquita, I remember the first time our paths crossed as if it were yesterday. You were vehemently arguing your point of contention with a judge at the 19th JDC. Your professionalism, vigor, and aura left me asking; "How long has this attorney been in practice?" I got my answer immediately...less than a year. I thank God I had the opportunity to not only meet you that day, but also the opportunity to develop a rapport with you. You left me in awe that day Chiquita, and there were many more days to come. What a terrible loss for your family, friends, associates, potential clients, and people like me...someone striving daily to become a fraction of what you represented, whether you were standing in a courtroom, or in front of an elevator...a phenomenal woman. You will be missed, but now the heavenly father has an angel that can continue to represent those that are on the 'bubble."

You are all in my prayers. Chiquita and I were in the same section in law school. She was one of the most straight-forward, giving people I've ever met. She would pick me up for class sometimes and take me home in the evening. She was always good for a laugh and a smile in the atrium. The last time I saw her was in court, and we only had time for a quick hug, but she always made time for you. The flu kept me from attending the service, but I wanted to let you all know that Chiquita will be missed so much. Rest in peace, my girl.

Chiquita was one of my role models. I grew up under her at Greater Green Chapel A.M.E. church. Everytime you would see her, she wore a smile that would spark a smile in others. Everytime I would see her she would give me the biggest hug and say hey "Britt"......She captivated all around her, and encouraged you in a way as if nothing was impossible. Well you proved that several times over didn't you. My regret is that I didn't keep in touch when I moved away.
Chiquita I love and will miss you dearly.

Every once in a great while God sends someone along to remind us that he is still raising up young warriors. In recent years, Chiquita was one of those persons for me. Two things you knew if you had more than two conversations with her-- She loved Greg and her family, and She believed that everyone deserved equal protection/treatment under the law. She was my little "Sister Soldier." Sleep well, Warrior Princess. Truth crushed to earth always rises again.

Ms. T. Tate-Thomas

February 28, 2009

Ms. Tate, you indeed stood tall. You was a pillar in your community, and I don't think anyone could appreciate it more, than your clients. When I was first given your name, I said who? Are you sure you have the right name? I then quickly said" thou shalt not judge" and immediately wanted to here what you had to say about the situation of chomped up charges. It was as though a heavy burden was lifted from my shoulders, just because of what you said, and how you said it, and with a smile and such confidence. Then as we got to know you and watch you in the court rooms, it was amazing. My son was saved because of you. I for one told you many times, how much I appreciated you and we all did. But, I also mentioned how proud of you I was, and admired you for standing up to anyone with no fear in your heart. If it was there, it was under lock and key. This was such a tragedy to here this of all days on Mikes birthday needless to say, we just could not celebrate. You will never be forgotten. We were stund. To the family, I say look to the Lord for your strength and she will be there watching over all of you. God bless you all, and I pray that shes resting peacefully due to the circumstances.

My Mom and I met Chiquita with my brother, Greg in Dallas at a family gathering. She was a very nice person and I remember her as she held her smaller dog and my brother the off white one in their laps. I thought that was the cutest thing to see them both do and with a smile. We are truly sadden by this unfortunate passing of Chiquita. May God Bless both of our families and may peace hold us together with love.

Chiquita was more than just a 'fellow colleague' to me, She was an absolute Dear and yet... Unexpected friend. I only wish that I could talk with her one more time - so I could tell her and make sure she knew just how much she means to me.
I am forever touched by her spirit and laughter. She had the ability to make a complete passing stranger pause and smile whenever she passed by in kindness.
Chiquita Is and Always will be.....Forever Memorable!

....Her Journey's Just Begun. Don't think of her as gone away-her journey's just begun, life holds so many facets-this earth is only one. Just think of her as resting from the sorrow and the tears, in a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years. Think how she must be wishing that we could know today, how nothing but our sadness can really pass away. And think of her as living in the hearts of those she touched...for nothing loved is ever lost-and she was loved so much...A Poem for Chiquita

Danita, Jonathan, and Family,

Words cannot express the hurt my heart feels and the sincere sympathy I feel for you during your loss. I have known Chiquita for some 30 years and she was a true friend and mentor. I can still remember Ms. Dangerfield fussing about us cutting through the shortcut on Acadian all the time and all the fun we had as children. She will truly be missed, but find comfort in knowing that she is in heaven because the life she lived does "SPEAK FOR HER!" She rose from the rubbles of life to excel and become a Mortar of Heros". Be blessed and always prayerful.

The Tate family will forever remain near and dear to me.Chiquita's mom Catherine 'Cat'was just like a mother and a friend to me and all whom knew her.My heart deeply goes out to the six siblings of Quita. You all have been strong for a long time, now its time for God to make you stronger.Your sister was the most intellegent-outspoken person I could have known.Im so proud of her.Her time on earth may have been cut short. But Quita did enough that a person, would have spent a whole life time trying to acomplish.God is a jealous God,Its time that she continue her practice from up above. She loved all of you.Your sister will always be your rock and your guide.Just put God first ,and everything will fall in place.

Remember

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
