Chris Hanselmann Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 16 to Oct. 17, 2008.
CHRIS HANSELMANN November 17, 1938 October 15, 2008 Chris passed away peacefully with family at her side. She is dearly loved and remembered by her children, Curtis (Sharon), Cathy, Calvin (Dylan), Cliff (Cathy); five grandchildren, Alia, Carly, Lindsey, Lisa, Matt; sisters, Tony (Vic) Kowalchuk, Laverne (Peter) Chubak; brothers, Floyd (Donna) Braun, and Lyle Braun; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her infant Carl and Baby Cathy; and her parents, Ray and Margaret Braun. Mom was always busy, whether raising her family, in the workforce, or volunteering in the community. Her favourite place to be was the lake. She gave greatly to her favourite causes, which included the Independent Order of Foresters, Cheshire Homes, hockey, and her beloved Roughriders. Her love of football saw her attend several Grey Cups, including the 1984 game in a bitterly cold Edmonton when a desperately needed wineskin full of Lemon Hart disappeared in the men's washroom. She kept well-stocked freezers, and took special joy in cooking, canning, and making pickles. After a lifetime of cleaning and cooking them, Mom finally took up fishing later in life and was successful at Aquadeo Beach. In her early life Mom was a trailblazer, being one of the first female stock car racers in Saskatchewan and the first female gas jockey at King's Service in Saskatoon. Her interest in all things automotive extended to speeding to the lake and restoring a Studebaker. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 18th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church (8th Street and Broadway) with Rev. Father Len Cyr as the celebrant. Following a reception, the Rite of Committal will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial donations would be appreciated if made to Cheshire Homes of Saskatoon (2901 Louise St., Saskatoon, SK, S7J 3L1). Arrangements in care of John Schachtel, MOURNING GLORY FUNERAL SERVICES (978-5200).

I will miss Auntie Chris very much. She was the life of the party whenever she came to visit, especially at Nana and Papa's 50th Anniversary party. It was always nice to spend time with her.

Your Mother was always a great inspiration to me as we worked together for Cheshire Homes and the Head Injury Association. I remember also her telling me about how she loved the first week of each summer when she went to the cabin at the lake by herself. She will be missed and fondly remembered by many.
