Chris Hutcheson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 28, 2019.

Christopher Arnold Hutcheson was born to Arnold and Louise Hutcheson in Defuniak Springs, FL on July 9, 1959 and passed away on September 26, 2019 in Tampa, FL.  Chris loved his family, he loved baseball, and he loved people.  Whether you knew him as Chris, Hutch, Dad, Coach, Grandpa, or Grandpa with the Hat, most everyone knew him because he was a big personality.  His family was most important to him and he loved to tell people all about his kids and grandkids.  Through baseball, he was able to coach, teach, and mentor young men.  Chris could work with young kids, teenagers, or college kids and he could get the most out of them all because he pushed them to be the best they could be.  He took a lot of pride in bringing out more in a player than that player ever thought he had in him.  He was a police officer, a soldier, a corrections officer, and a coach, but he was always a leader in all of those fields.  He always looked to help people better themselves even if that meant showing tough love because, as he always said, “it’s hard but it’s fair”.  If someone was struggling with picking up a skill or finishing a task, he would tell them it was a simple decision that they had to make as he would tell them, “either you can’t or you won’t”.  Chris had made a decision to follow Christ recently and that is what brings his family great comfort because they know that he has been reunited with Sandra and in the presence of Jesus.  Though there will be sad days ahead as the family mourns his passing, they celebrate a life well-lived and a reunion long overdue.

Chris was preceded in death by his mother and father and his first wife Sandra Hutcheson.  He is survived by his second wife of 14 years, Donna Hutcheson; children, April Cobb and her husband Kevin, Tara Crawford and her husband Chris, Hannah Culbreth and her husband Shane, Eric Hutcheson, Jameson King and his wife Emily; grandchildren Tyler and Elaina Cobb, Colin and Miles Crawford, Jace and Jamesley Culbreth, and Braden and Allie Hutcheson; brothers and sisters, Jerry (Beverly) Hutcheson, Gary (Pam) Hutcheson, Keith Hutcheson, Jack Hutcheson, David (Pam) Hutcheson, Angie (Kent) Scebbi, Rod Hutcheson, and Lisa (Danielle Belva) Hutcheson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Evans Funeral Home in Florala, Alabama on Monday, September 30, 2019 at 3:00 pm and visitation will be from 1:30 pm until the service begins. Interment will be in the Greenwood Memorial Cemetery following the service.

So very sorry to hear about Hutch's passing. He had his baseball business outside our gate (in Marianna, FL) & he always greeted us with a smile and positive words. He will be missed by many!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Hutch's family and all who knew and loved him. Best baseball coach I ever saw, but an even better man. So appreciative for the time my son and many others spent with him. They will take his life lessons about baseball and becoming men with them from now on. He was definitely a straight-shooter and he will be sorely missed! God bless.

The emptiness I feel in my heart is overwhelming. I will never be able to express what Hutch's friendship means to me. My heart grieves that I won't have my buddy to talk to in person anymore, but I have no doubt he'll send me "signs"! Rest easy, my friend! My thoughts, prayers, and love go out to the family...I love you all!
