Chris McCrory Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 11 to Mar. 12, 2024.
Chris Lee McCrory, 75, of Calabash, NC, formerly of Bayport, NY, and Allenport, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on March 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

The son of the late John and LaVerne (Burry) McCrory was born in 1948 in Charleroi, PA. He was a 1966 graduate of Charleroi Area High School, where he was a member of the boys' varsity soccer team and earned All-WPIAL honors. Chris was inducted into the Charleroi Boys Soccer Hall of Fame. He earned a BS in Elementary Education from California State College (now PennWest University) and an MA from Adelphi University. He was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. Chris spent his career teaching elementary school in the Bayport-Blue Point UFSD on Long Island, NY, and coached the Bayport-Blue Point high school golf team for many years. A member of the Sayville Yacht Club, he was a competitive sailor. His other passions throughout his life included hiking, listening to music, and watching his favorite sports teams.

Chris and his wife Joanne retired to Calabash, NC, in 2004, where he enjoyed many rounds of golf with good friends. Although he battled health issues, he lived a full life, impressing everyone with his tenacity and keep-going attitude. He was a respected member of the Brunswick community, a kind and loyal friend to many, and was known for his integrity, his sense of humor, and his love of telling stories.

Chris leaves behind many who loved him, including his wife of 45 years, Joanne Boss Burke McCrory, and daughters Diana Burke of Marina Del Rey, CA, and Kathryn (Andy) Burke Maynard of Little River, SC, and grandson Jack Mosier of Alhambra, CA. He is also survived by brother Jon (Lucretia) McCrory, sisters Judy (Riki) Paich and Jeannie (Gene) Fox, and sisters-in-law Lucinda (Jon) Lindsay, Laura (Craig) Stewart, and Janet (Steve) Walsh, many nieces and nephews, as well as many supportive friends and neighbors. He will be deeply missed by all.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, from 1:00-2:00 PM at Brunswick Funeral Service, 5229 Ocean Hwy W Shallotte, NC 28470. The Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the funeral home Chapel with Rev. Henry Rehder officiating.

Joanne so sorry for your loss. Chris was responsible for me getting into Golf. He would take me out to rock Hill for a 6 o´clock teetime. It was so dark you couldn´t even see the ball
he was a great teacher, not only in school as my children were fortunate enough to have him as a teacher but as a golf instructor, the lefty could really put the ball out there
I know he´s looking down at everyone and he´s probably found the golf partner up there also

Dear Joanne,

My sympathy goes out to you and your whole family!

So sorry to hear of Chris' passing...he was always my friend & fraternity brother and Little Brother in Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity.

The obituary has it right...everyone liked Chris, so mild mannered...unless you got him angry & then ubbetter look out!

To all the McCrory family...Judy, Jon & Jeannie my heart goes out to ya too. It's been awhile since I saw him last, but Thank you Judy for bringing him to my home/business not too many years ago. It was nice having "yinz" visit me in Pittsburgh.

Am glad he got to live a long full and happy life and will remember Chris during our college years & all the fun we had when I would visit him on Long Island in beginning yrs of teaching....concerts, sporting events, holidays & more! Memories have been popping up numerous times & will remember him forever!

Sincerely,
Karl P Kargle

Dear Joanne- we were all so saddened to hear the news of Chris' passing. We have many fond memories of Chris and the obituary captures his life and spirit well. He certainly was a fighter! He handled his health issues with grit and determination. I will never forget how helpful he was to me during Donnie & Kate's wedding on Bald Head Island-despite those big front steps at 'Om Sweet Home' he navigated like a champ! His suffering brought with it a humility and appreciation for all he encountered. I am sorry we will not be able to be there with you today. Don and I went to mass today to give thanks to God for a life well lived and prayers for the repose of his soul. May the angels lead him to paradise and may his soul rest in peace. Prayers for you as well. Love always, Tricia, Don and family Attached is a family pic from the wedding!!!
