I grew up with Chris Mortensen in Torrance California ... we played sports together from our teens in grade school to high school, to later playing slo-pitch softball in our neighborhood rec leagues ... also spent time with him in Phoenix during the Super Bowl week in 1996 ... but what hurts, I was playing a trip to Atlanta area, and made some tentative plans to meet ... very sad for me to learn of his death, although I was slightly aware of some health issues ...

Honored to have known such a classy and knowledgeable sports personality. From our days with the "Norby Walters and Lloyd Bloom story when Chris was with the Atlanta Journal and years of NFL drafts, super bowls and combines, Chris was always at the top of his game. And I was honored to have Chris endorse my book. Ralph and Mary Cindrich and family send our deepest prayers and support.

Such a blue collared type of personality. Chris' all around knowledge truly exemplified his love of football. ESPN has indeed lost a valuable member of the family. Thank you for always being a wonderful host, and even greater man of the fan's. RIP
Rest in peace, Chris

I watched Mr. Mortensen on ESPN for years. One day I was working at the Springdale Lowes store and looked up and there he was waiting for to me check his items out. I was like there use to be a Mortensen on ESPN and he said that was me. He was very friendly and always spoke with me about sports when I would see him in the store. A very genuine man. Prayers for the family

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always. You did a wonderful job for ESPN and covering Super Bowl games for decades.
(Romans 6:23: For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord).
We'll miss you so much. Rest in Peace, Chris.
