To the family, many, many friends, and fans of this great person who played and loved the game of football Chris Smith, gone to soon. Chris Smith was a defensive end who played for NFL teams including the Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, and Cincinnati Bengals. I am so sorry that I was unable to attend the viewing or the funeral to share my condolences in person. My heart goes out to Chris' family for his untimely passing. Lifting prayers for strength and comfort in your time of grief. I have had the privilege to know of him and members of his family in many capacities. Two of my children went to West Rowan High School during Chris' time there and I remember him being a multi-talented individual having witnessed both his athleticism on the football field and basketball court and also his musical talent during band concerts. He was a joy to watch as he approached each activity with a contagious enthusiasm and spark that ignited those around him. Later on, I had the blessing of working alongside his Aunt Anita Allen and brother-in-law Patrick Jones and getting to know his younger cousins at Overton Elementary School. It was an extra-special year for our students when Chris took time as a Jacksonville Jaguar to volunteer his services at Career Day, sharing about his experience of making it to the NFL and inspiring them to do their best on and off the practice field.

I am so sad and sorry to hear about the passing of Chris. I knew him in his younger years as a basketball player on our sons´ AAU team and he was such a nice boy from a great family. Special thoughts and prayers for his parents and sister as they go through this sad time.

I coached Chris in AAU basketball as a middle schooler and my sons were his teammates. He was a very kind and considerate young man who had an infectious smile. I last saw Chris when he was in high school but he still had the same big smile. My sons ran into him several times during their college athletic careers and remarked "the same old Chris!". My condolences to his family for the loss of a truly good man.
Rest in the arms of the Lord, Chris.
