ALLRED, Frances Whitaker, 92, passed away June 19, 2009 at her home in Oak Ridge, N.C. Oak Ridge is the town where she was born, and returned to in 1962 after travels abroad and across the United States as an Army wife. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at Oak Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall of the church. She was born October 12, 1916 to the late C.Z. Whitaker and Lilly Belle Lyon Whitaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ret. Army Major Paul C. Allred Jr.; three brothers, Reginald Lyon Whitaker Sr., William David Whitaker Sr. and Rudolph Carlyle Whitaker; two sisters, Carrie Elizabeth Kinnamon and Margaret Whitaker Ferland; a nephew, Reginald Lyon Whitaker Jr.; and a niece, Carol Ferland Stimmel. Survivors include her loving daughters, Frances Paulette Davis and her husband, Phil, of Sparta, Wisc. and Patsy Allred Garber and husband, Don, of Richmond, Va.; three grandchildren, Beth Davis and friend, Lisa Green, of Jensen Beach, Fla., Dale Davis and wife, Amy, of Waukesha, Wisc. and Patty Davis of LaCrosse, Wisc.; four great-grandchildren, Sydney Davis of Waukesha, Wisc., Austin, Cameron and Alex Bever of LaCrosse, Wisc.; two nieces and five nephews. She also leaves behind her special friend and "sister-in-life," Polly Dore` Donnell Wolfe (and her entire family); loving nephew, Charles Kinnamon; and her faithful caregiver and friend, Carolyn Mayton. She will be remembered for her sweet and gracious manner, her love of flowers and nature, sewing, needlework, crafting, arrowhead hunting, antique collecting and refinishing, and passing on stories of her childhood and history of the community. She was loved by all who met her. Memorial contributions may be made to The Shepherd's Center of Kernersville, P.O. Box 2044, Kernersville, N.C. 27285-2044; Community Meals on Wheels Ministry, 7924 Highfield Road, Summerfield, N.C. 27358; or the charity of one's choice. The family is especially thankful for the kindness of friends and neighbors which allowed for Frances to remain in her home. Also, thank you to the Ministry of Oak Ridge United Methodist Church for their support and blessings over the years. The family also acknowledges, and appreciates, the dedicated care and love shown to Frances by Home Instead services, especially Carolyn, Tammy Hood, Cyntha Mabe, and Marsha Ramsey. Special appreciation is expressed to the staff and volunteers of Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, N.C.
