Christine Bodmer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 12, 2016.
Christine Evelyn Bodmer, age 77, peacefully passed away on 4/12/16 in Encinitas, California from brain cancer and Parkinson disease. She was the loving mother of Steve, Jim and Lynda; Nana of Rachel, Jacob, Nick, Zach, Tori, Tim, Sami, Casi, Eric and Ryan. Her late husband, Harold, passed away on 3/31/10 after 50 beautiful years of marriage. She will be buried alongside him at Riverside National Cemetery, CA on May 13, 2016 followed by a memorial service at 12:30 at Allen Brothers Mortuary chapel in Vista. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Christine (Chris) was born in Brooklyn, NY on 2/6/1939 from John and Evelyn Fischer. Sadly, her mother died only a few months later from cancer. She was brought up by her dad and older sisters Josephine, Flora, and Marie. She married Harold Bodmer on 6/20/1959 in Wyandanch, NY. Their first house was in Massapequa, NY, where they had their two sons, Steve and Jim. In 1965 they moved to Lake Grove, NY where they later had their daughter, Lynda. As kids, we had many fond memories growing up in this house including family gatherings and camping trips. She became a Registered Nurse in 1975 and practiced for many years concluding her career on the baby floor, which she absolutely loved. They retired and moved to Ridge, NY and enjoyed many travels. During one of these travels, unfortunately, Harold suffered a stroke which he was only able to partially recover. Shortly thereafter in 1999, Chris and Harold moved out to Murrieta, CA to be closer to Steve and Lynda. Thankfully they were both able to see their grandchildren born and grow up before he passed away from melanoma in 2010, less than a year after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. Chris stayed in their house in Murrieta until about 2 years ago when she needed to move to Brookdale assisted living facility in San Marcos, CA due to her health deterioration. This February, only four days after celebrating her 77th birthday with the family, she was admitted into the Scripps Encinitas hospital where they discovered a brain tumor. We are grateful that she was able to stay comfortably at Encinitas Retirement Gardens with wonderful people to help her through the last two difficult months. We are thankful for all of the loving, beautiful memories we will always have of her. We will miss you dearly!! In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made at the following charities or the charity of your choice: American Parkinson Disease Association, National Brain Tumor Society.

Chris was a warm and friendly person As a new nurse, she took me under her wing. We met at
Stony Brook University Hospital, NY., almost 40 years ago. We became good friends and took many trips together with Marilyn and a small circle of their friends. We enjoyed going out to dinner with them all and celebrated birthdays together. It was our loss when they moved to California. We were able to visit them and saw their beautiful home in Murietta. Chris was a breath of fresh air with a quick smile and a hearty laugh. Chris and Harold were a giving and caring couple. Upon returning from a trip we received the news of Chris"s passing. It saddened us greatly. I spoke to Chris about 2 months ago. Our deepest sympathy to all the family. You will be in our prayers. Chris and Harold are together again!

Mrs. Bodmer was such a nice person. I met her many years ago on Long Island when I met Steve at Stony Brook, and then saw her many times after she moved to California. It was always fun to celebrate her birthday at Steve and Karen's Super bowl party. So sorry for your loss.

When my cousin Harold married Chris in 1959 she was such a welcomed addition to our family. In subsequent years when our families gathered at their home in Long Island and ours in N.J. her laughter and cheerfulness always filled the room making our reunions so very special and memorable. Our children Mark and Kathryn still remember the fun they had during these visits and also were saddened by her death. But you Steve, Jim and Lynda bear the most heartache with now having had to say goodbye to both your parents, and your children have lost a beloved grandmother. We take solace, however, in knowing that so many memories of the years you spent together will always be with you, and the goodness that she bestowed on you now lives on through you. May you find peace and comfort in the days ahead. Sincere condolences.

Mrs. Bodmer was a very large part of my childhood. I think I could say the same for my whole family. Only living a few houses down, and all three of her children and all three children in our family, we were all great friends and the same ages. Linda was my best friend and the biggest memory from my childhood. She and I spent every second of every day together. This meant me being at their house sometimes for days upon days and nights upon nights. Mrs. Bodmer was always there and was always welcoming. No matter what trouble Linda and I got into his kids, she was always there. I can still see her smiling face. I can still hear her laugh. And I am grateful for the many times that she was around during my childhood years. She will be missed by me.
