Christine Diane Brohoski (59) of
Vancouver, WA, passed away on April 4, 2023, due to cirrhosis of the liver. She is survived by her daughters Meghan Brohoski (29) and Erin Brohoski (25), her mother, Mary Lou West (80), father Lester Coy and brothers, Kenny Coy (60) and Brad Coy (58).
Christine, who went by Chris, was a fun, smart and determined soul who will be missed and remembered by the lives she touched. Throughout her life, Chris was known for her strong work ethic, 'always on' sense of humor, and for being an amazing provider for her family. She had a passion for cooking, Spanish culture, conversing with people from all walks of life, foreign travel, road trips, and studying history, jewelry and art.
Born on July 6, 1963, to Mary Lou West and Lesley Coy in the small town of
Roseburg, OR. Chris was the middle-child of three children, and had two brothers Ken Coy (oldest) and Brad Coy (youngest). As a child, Chris was described as stubborn due to her independent nature and adventurous spirit. She very much enjoyed academics and applied herself in school, even skipping the second grade!
Growing up in a small-town, Chris always longed for a bigger way of life away from her hometown. After graduating high school in 1979 at 16 years old from Yoncalla alongside a class of 25 students, Chris moved to Southern California to begin what would be a successful career as a HR Compensations & Benefits Executive.
She started working at Hybritech Inc. in 1987 where she met many of her closest friends who she remained in touch with over the years through their annual 'Girls Club' trips. These relationships meant a lot to her and she held them dear.
Chris felt that only having a high-school career held her back from professional advancement, so in 1993 while she was pregnant with her first born, Meghan, she began night school at Palomar Community College where she earned her Associates degree. After leaving Hybritech, she went on to hone her craft as a talented HR professional, working at credible organizations such as Sony Electronics, Wagner Edstrom, PSCU, Insitu and even did her own consulting over the years.
Outside of her corporate career, Chris had lifelong aspirations of immersing herself in Hispanic culture and completing an immersion program abroad. She fulfilled this dream in 2018, by traveling to Panama and participating in a 6-week immersion program. During her trip she studied Spanish, met new friends, explored the country, and embraced the discomfort and adventure that comes with traveling abroad.
However, the main joy in her life were her two daughters, Meghan and Erin who she raised with her ex-husband of 20 years, Michael Brohoski, 63. She loved her daughters dearly and took pride in providing for her family by cooking healthy, delicious meals and staying on top of all the family's obligations. Her favorite memories with the girls were spent during weekend trips out to the barn for horseback riding lessons in Oregon, vacations to warm places, going out to dinners, and creating magical memories during the holidays.
Toward the end of her life, Chris had aspirations to finally make the big move to Mexico - which was arguably her favorite place in the world. She was also in the middle of a new renaissance with cooking and was constantly experimenting with new recipes. One of her latest ventures was pickling! Chris even attended a few weeks of a local cooking program.
While her life ended sooner than expected, she lived a full life according to her own terms and her family can rest knowing she's at peace. If you want to feel connected to Chris, try playing one of her all time favorite songs 'Girl on Fire' by Alicia Keys, especially on your next road trip! Her daughters recall her playing this on repeat for years, and know it helped uplift her through hard times.
