Christine Guthrie Obituary
GUTHRIE CHRISTINE LYNNE GUTHRIE Christine will be profoundly missed by her family, loved ones, and all whom she touched with her spirit. Christine Lynne Guthrie, born on January 31, 1971, was a bright light to her family, coworkers, friends, and students. She passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2010. After graduating from Friends School of Baltimore, she attended the University of Rochester where she majored in Psychology and Spanish. Christine earned a Masters Degree in Public Health at The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and dedicated her professional life to helping those with behavioral and mental health issues. Choosing a professional path of service that reflected her deep love and concern for humanity, she counseled low income women in Salinas, California. Later, joining the U.S. Federal Government, Health and Human Services, she coordinated public health centers geographically and worked to improve health care policies. Her compassionate insight into the understanding of personal challenges guided her approaches to innovative therapies and policies. Christine had an abiding desire to connect to the goodness in others through her spiritual practice. She completed Willow Street Yoga Center's Yoga Teacher Training in 2006. Her spiritual journey took her to India and many States as she explored religious, psychological and interpersonal pathways. She was renowned for her masterful yoga teaching and powerful healing relationships. The yoga community honors her with deep fondness and respect. Christine is remembered by her spouse, Rita Etter, her parents, Janet Guthrie, John and Stacey Guthrie, her brothers Mark Guthrie & Jeff Ward, and her sister Laura (Jim) Ragonese. A Memorial Service in celebration of Christine will be held on Saturday, January 1 at 2 p.m. at the Takoma Park Presbyterian Church, 310 Tulip Ave., Takoma Park, MD.

Christine, it's been 14 years and not a day goes by without me thinking of you. I still have days where it's so hard to believe you are not here anymore. What I wouldn't do for one more day with you to just sit and talk. I have so many things to share and questions to ask. Things I was not ready to back then or even knew yet about myself, us, life. But, I know you are in a happier place and I thank you for the wonderful dream I had of you where you were happy and you came to let me know. You are greatly missed by so many and we all love you so much! Keep flying free and know we'll see each other again someday. I love you!

Christine and I became close friends while working together years ago at CMHS. She was someone who taught me a great deal and brought much laughter into my life when I needed it most. She was such a wonderful person and friend. I recently learned of her passing and am very saddened. I will hold onto all the great memories of her kindness, laughter, and strength.

I taught Christine at Friends School and was her advisor for two years, led a program she participated in in Mexico, and stayed in touch with her for a several years after she graduated from college. I have many great memories of her her warmth, her diligence, and her smile. I'm very saddened to have just learned that she is no longer with us.

I too worked with Christine several years ago at HHS and I have great memories. Christine was a wonderful co-worker. She was enthusiastic, supportive and caring. For Christmas one year she gave me a hand-made soap with the wrapping which said from "ChrisClean." I very much enjoyed working with her and especially remember the times we were able to just sit and chat. She was a wondeful person and will be very much missed. I just received my Rochester Review and learned of Christine's passing. While we have not kept in touch since our UR days, I clearly remember Christie's smile, friendship and her deep concern for others. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.

To Christine's Family and Friends: I hired Christine as a research assistant to help with a study of playground safety in child care programs. Six years later she asked me to write a recommendation. I immediately recollected her many skills and talents. At that time, I wrote, "She was a gifted student with a passion for child health. She was distinguished in her class for her interest in and knowledge of innovative solutions to current challenges in children's mental health. I recollect that her work, particularly her writing, was always excellent in terms of quality and execution ... She was simultaneously curious, imaginative, persistent, and attentive to detail." I am saddened by this news and extend my sincere sympathy to all who knew and loved her.

Dear Rita and family
I employed Christine at my small business, ToucanEd, in Santa Cruz California. She was fantastic and helped us create an important work titled "Defensa de Muheras." It was designed to empower women living in homes with potential violence. Christine was critical to the completion of this work. We wished her well as she moved back home to Maryland -- but would have loved her to stay here with us. I am holding her memory in peace and love.
