Christine Thomas Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 20, 2024.
Camarillo - It shouldn't be a surprise that Christine Thomas left us prematurely - after all, the woman was, without fail, always early. Christine Thomas, aka G-MA, 74, of Camarillo, California, passed away on October 15th, 2024, within reach of her loving husband, Steve Thomas.

Christine was as fierce as they come. Everything she did was done with the utmost devotion to detail and regard for loyalty. She loved fervently, spoke colorfully, and did all things passionately. Christine was a champion for honesty - mostly when it came to golf scores - and was relentless in her authenticity. Christine lived by the courage of her convictions, and taught everyone around her that they too should have the confidence to do so. She firmly believed in having high standards and was unwaveringly unapologetic about having them.

Christine was effortlessly chic while simultaneously being masterfully real. She did all things luxuriously while preserving a down to earth demeanor. Christine made housework feel elegant and made fast food seem fancy. Everything she did was iconic, not only because she could not be found without a perfect manicure, unwrinkled shirt, or a beautiful blowout, but because she did everything illustriously. Christine was exceedingly generous - except when it came to "gimmes" on the golf course, and was incredibly thoughtful.

Christine was born in Ventura, CA and grew up in Oxnard, CA with her parents and six siblings. She met Steve Thomas while working at Port Hueneme Naval Base. The two got married in 1969 when Steve returned from Vietnam and went off to live with Steve's family in Ohio with just a bucket of KFC and a few dollars to their name. Shortly after, Christine gave birth to Steve Jr., followed by Stephanie, thus beginning a family she dedicated her whole heart to. Christine was incredibly proud of her husband Steve, and the legacy they built together throughout 31 years at Steve Thomas BMW. After retiring last October, Steve and Christine became bar flies together at their favorite local haunts - Latitude 34, Ric's, and Ottavio's.

Christine gave both of her children and all six of her granddaughters the world, and showed them how to live boldly in it. She took pride in being the hostess with the mostest, especially when it came to entertaining her grandchildren. Christine was the queen of pool parties and backyard barbecues, and often went out of her way to make sure everything was absolutely perfect for her family.

Christine was at her happiest on the golf course. She was a fierce competitor who loved to play with her Ladies. She won over 18 championships at Spanish Hills - and even had to get a second locker just to display her prized plaques. She had five hole-in-ones, and took pride in being able to finish a round of golf in less than three hours.

Christine spent her final days the same way she spent her life. She shared joyful dinners and many martinis with her girls, took trips to her happy place, the Chumash Casino with Steve, every Freeplay Tuesday, and made her son-in-law, Jon, do hours of handyman work. She cheered for the KC Chiefs and the PGA tour, played cards with her sisters, went to happy hour with Steve, and did it all with the widest smile on her face.

Christine consistently spoke about her death - much to the dismay of everyone around her - and how when it was her time, it was her time, and there was nothing that could be done about it...She knew she would be in God's hands and was more than happy to be there. Take comfort in the fact that she had accepted her passing long before she left this earth. And while she did not make plans for her posthumous celebrations, she did plan precisely what should happen to her purse collection, so that she could rest easy knowing her Louis V's were taken care of.

Christine taught us all to stand up a little straighter, hold our heads a little higher, and to not take s*** from anyone...Unless, of course, she had something to say.

Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Criscencio Chaparro & Adela (Naranjo) Chaparro, her in-laws Marvin Thomas & Violet (Hurley) Thomas. She is survived by her husband, Steve Thomas; son Steve Thomas Jr & Brigitte Bogaardt; daughter Stephanie (Thomas) & Jon Fournell; and granddaughters Vanessa Lopez, Britney Thomas, Rieanne (Thomas) & Eric Viles, Sarah Fournell, Natalie Fournell and Jenna Fournell; her siblings Mary 'Nena' and Robert Santellan, Rosemary 'Cho' Chaparro, Esther 'Jeannie' Ortiz, Cassie Chaparro, Richard Chaparro, Christopher 'Toby' Chaparro & Michael Chaparro.

For those of you who loved Christine - because to know her was to love her - there will be a Celebration of Life at Spanish Hills Club on October 27th at 2pm.

Don and I were shocked by the news and offer our sincere condolence to Steve and the entire family. Surly there is a tremendous silence left in the abscene
of her magnanimous personality. We smile as we recalled Christine and Steve visiting our home early in their marriage. She was so excited to put their home together. We recalled remember her comment that she hoped to have a home like ours one day. Well Chris, you certainly surpassed even your expectations. Rest well, for your job well done.

My heart goes out to Steve and your wonderful family. Chris was my favorite partner and I will always imagine her warming up on the range, checking the green speed and making sure we were ready to play. We were serious about the game and celebrated each other´s good shots and puzzled over missing the "simple" ones. We played hard for the $20 bets we made on the games. It often came down to the last two holes. Once, on 17, I was ahead two strokes and she put the $20 on my scorecard-essentially saying she thought I was going to win it. Well, by the time I fished two balls out of the pond on 18 she made par and we laughed all the way to the clubhouse. I gave the $20 back to her. "Next time," I said.
I looked forward to every time we were able to play together and cherished every round we had together. I will miss her more than could be measured. SS

Words are limited things. Here are four words that ring in our memory of Chris Thomas: Bright, Charming, Generous and Gracious. Our world is diminished by her passing. Meeting Chris for the first time: Chris and Steve invited us to their house for breakfast. I was a bit anxious because Jon described the Thomas's as amazing. No one ever described me as amazing. We entered the kitchen and were introduced. Chris sensing my feeling with a laugh said, "We're just plain folks. I hope you like Mexican food." I thought how gracious she is - Amazing. With Love and respect Jim ad Armida

I was fortunate to play team play with Chris on many occasions. She taught me a lot about the game, competition and how to be a classy golfer. She was a very generous lady and took pride in sharing what she had with others. When the team would travel up North near her favorite casino, she would always make sure the group was taken care of with a nice dinner and a fun night out. I know how much she adored her family, especially her kids and grandkids and I can't imagine the loss they must be feeling. My heart goes out to all of you during this very difficult time, please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Diane & Bill McGinnis

My first round of golf at Spanish Hills was 24 years ago with Chris and Steve and I have had many great memories since. My initial impressions of Chris have stood the test of time. She was fun,she was tough, she was charitable. A woman to be reckoned with. My kind of gal. Marc

Chris and I played golf together at Spanish Hills. She was very competitive and also an asset to our Team Play and Camarillo Cup Teams. She was extremely generous with her time and gifts to support tournaments. She was a very accomplished golfer who won many individual awards as well. She was a classy lady on and off the course. Having integrity on and off the course were very important to her. She gladly helped people learn the proper rules and etiquette of golf.
She generously treated us to amazing dinners at Chumash the nights before we played Alisal Ranch. These special nights allowed us all to grow closer, laugh a lot, and tell stories for years to come.
Chris will be sorely missed at Spanish Hills and our whole community. She was one of a kind

Chris was my golfing buddy for many years ... we shared many laughs about ourselves, our game, our families. She spoiled me rotten with her generosity of visits to Chumash, be it to gamble, or see a show. I will forever be grateful for her support, comfort and kindness these last 3 years since losing my husband. She will be missed ......
