Dear Susan -
It was a gift & a privelege to have known Chris, to have seen him on stage and to have worked with him at EST-LA. What a talent, with great humor and depth and brilliance! He lived and worked with such passion and hunger - which taught and gave much to me and to many. I am so profoundly sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers - Michelle Haner

Susan, Mason, Diana and Drew (and Ripley too)

I was one of the lucky ones; I got to experience Chris in so many different passionate ways... on the rock, in the snow, plucking strings and singing our hearts out, and as fellow fathers of young sons too. I feel like I lost four friends in one. I'm sorry I couldn't really find the words when I saw you Saturday. I so wanted to share everything but my tongue simply wouldn't cooperate. Know that I'll honor Chris for the rest of my days... and if I can contribute in any way to your family at all you have but to call/write/email/smoke signal. I'll be there. I'll never forget the power of Sherwood's voice compelling us all to move along... as powerfully and surely as Chris would have himself.

I first met Chris in an acting class, he was powerful and gifted, a force to be reckoned with. We then worked together in a movie which shall remain nameless but allowed us the opportunity to both ski and play music together. We took every opportunity to do so. He was a terrific skier and a talented musician. He loved his wife and children and spoke of them often. I shall miss him.

Susan, I keep seeing Chris's smiling face and my heart goes out to you and your family. I had seen him so often at auditions and we always laughed like the friends and foot soldiers in the business we were, sharing many shows over the years. From Invaders From Mars, to Commander In Chief I have wonderful memories of working with him. I and my fellow cast did a special performance of a play that night after hearing the news. I'll miss him.
Thinking of you and the years of knowing Chris. Eric Pierpoint

Dear Susie, Mason, and Andrew,
Being so far away, I am still grappling with the news...Susie, I remember so much from every stage of your relationship with Chris; when you first met him when he was working at the Taper so many years ago. I think my fondest memories are of our wedding, when Chris became the "missing Mogge Brother" and ended up in just about every picture of my husband's family. I loved when he picked up the musician's fiddle and played for us. He was a sparkling, mischievous, brilliant presence, and turned everything he touched into magic.
Love,

Dearest Susan,
There are no words to convey my deepest sorrow at this incomprehensible loss. Chris was a dynamic and irreplaceable member of every community with which he was involved; the world will miss his shining presence. My heart is with you and the boys and all of Chris' family.

Susan
When I found out from Hazel what had happened, we just couldn't believe it. Even now I don't think it has sunk in. We're so terribly, terribly sorry fot your loss and please believe me when I say it's a huge loss for all of us. Unlike so many we've only known Chris for a short time, but in that time we've grown to admire, respect and like Chris very much. Every time we spoke to him, he was always so upbeat, positive and happy. To me this was understandable considering just how much he loved you and the kids. It also showed us just how wonderful a home you had created for him and the family. Truly, you all had something very special and were so unselfish in sharing it. This is why we know that Chris will go on living in our thoughts and memories for a long time to come. For me personally, Chris will always be the Star that just didn't get the credit he deserved for the fantastic talent that he was. I however was very blessed and fortunate to have known him, even for a short time. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and the kids in this very difficult time. If there is anything that Hazel or I can do for you, Please don't hesitate to ask.

I was shocked and saddened by the news of the loss of my boyhood friend. The first acting I ever did in children's theater was playing the waiter to Chris's Bert and the Mary Poppins of a girl whose name escapes me. And the echo of the songs Chris, Loudon and Jill Anderson rang out over their guitars a few years after that at a pre-college-age summer theater camp is singing in my ears as I type this.

But these are just the first memories of many.

May your own memories bring you some comfort in this tragic time.

Susan,

Laurel Ann Bogen called me with the news of Chris's death, and I am sitting here with tears in my eyes as I write you. It has just taken me a few minutes to compose myself, in fact, in order to write the next sentence. I haven't cried in years. I've lost five other comrades and friends in the past two years, and somehow I kept the tears in. But not this time. My heart is truly broken with grief and sorrow. If i weren't in my office at school, I would start wailing. I want to say that your love for each other inspired me. It was glorious to behold, and I will carry my memory of him and of you two together with me all of my life.

I send you my most profound sympathy. If you in any way need assistance, please call (562) 233-8162 or 233-2854. In my meditations, I hold both of you close.
