Our condoneses to the entire Brande family. Although we never met Chris personally, we have heard many great things about Chris and all of his accomplishments through his very proud mom Joan our neighbor. Reading Chris life journey has inspired us to live life to the fullest and enjoy life for every blessing we receive each day. We know that heaven has another angel protecting the Brande family, especially his mom Joan our dear friend. May God continue to give you all strength at this time of mourning.
God bless you all, sincerely your friends Angel & Iris

Chris was my closest friend in elementary school, PS 56, in the Bronx. He had apparently been the youngest in his class before I met him. When I, a year his junior, was moved mid-semester a year ahead into his class, and was now *by far* the youngest in the class, he took me under his wing, and befriended me, possibly because he knew what I was going through youngest-wise, and certainly because he was a real "mentsh". We were together only in 3rd grade and 5th grade, but I have many fond memories of those two years together, including climbing trees with him in the Reservoir Oval (the park between his house and mine), fungo-ing a softball to each other in the same park (me - barely dribbling the ball to him, and he - knocking it over the fence each time), flipping baseball cards, reading his comics together, being taken out to the Comet Diner on Bainbridge Avenue for ice cream sodas by our 5th grade teacher Mrs. Bochner for being the best spellers in the class, and many more. We went to different junior high schools, high schools, colleges, and were as a result out of touch for years... I got in touch with him again in 1988 after 14 years of not seeing each other, when my mom, who also had had the fondest memories of him from our childhood, called me to tell me that she had seen him on the news on TV http://www.nytimes.com/1988/04/15/nyregion/us-says-man-may-be-linked-with-terrorists.html
So I looked him up in the phone book, and called him... and since then, he and I were in touch, on and off, we got together for brunches, remembered each others birthdays (usually by email), and I had a great time every time we got together. And I lived vicariously through all the exotic experiences he had a chance to experience... I won't forget my last visit to him in the hospital, when he could barely talk and would eat nothing, when it occurred to me to offer him one of the Dum-Dum lollipops I had in my bag (courtesy of Chase Bank), hearkening back to the sweets we ate in our childhood together... to which he both smiled, and gave me the thumbs up... and in the same visit, when I asked him if there's any *real* food that I could go out and get him, and he said "chopped liver"... and I went out to look for chopped liver, finding it several blocks away in a supermarket... and I brought it back, and he didn't even want to taste it... and I tried it, and it was good... and I thanked him for giving me the opportunity to eat chopped liver for the first time in years - I won't forget the smile that brought to his face... I'll miss comparing which girls we had crushes on in elementary school, which baseball cards we regretted giving away, and everything else we shared... Chris, I wish you as joyously adventure-filled a life up there as you had in your first 50 years down here! And I'm rooting for you, together with my mom OBM, to be the joint Jeopardy champions of the world-to-come! With a big hug, Binyumen

Although I had no contact with Chris since he was 10 years old in my 5th grade class at P.S. 56, Bronx I remember him well. He was one of my outstanding students--a quick learner, eager, cooperative , with a passion for baseball. He told me that he wanted to be a sportscaster one day. It is gratifying to know that his adult life was filled with many accomplishments,
wonderful people and incredible experiences.
I am deeply saddened by his passing and wish to express my heartfelt condolences to his mother, Joan Brande and family. I hope that the memories of Chris will bring them some measure of comfort in the days to come.

I had not seen Chris since 2004 but the photograph captures my last memories of him. He was a mega fan of MLB and a great collector of memorabilia. Mostly I remember he had adopted a cat and spoke about him often.
I know he was a loyal friend and a person that would help others. My sympathies to the Brande family and his partner.

My deepest sympathy to Mrs. Brande, Kim and all of his family. I met Chris at Westpac Banking in the late 1980's when we worked together in the auditing dept. He somehow convinced me to type his papers to get him through school. You will always have a special place in my heart. Donna

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to Chris's family & Kimberly. I met Chris 21 years ago this week, on a trip to Antarctica. As a fellow seven continent traveler, we connected. I will greatly miss our conversations, hearing about his travels and the postcards. It was a privilege to know Chris and I'm thankful for all the memories. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Chris, many of the best times of my life were spent traveling the world with you, we were like brothers. From Antarctica, Africa, Turkey, Hawaii, and even our baseball stadium trip in the midwest, we had some great times. I was honored to have you as my best man at my wedding. The only happy thought is knowing that you have finally met Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and all your baseball idols. I am heartbroken over your passing , but glad that you lived such a great life and I am thankful for having known you and sharing all those great memories with you.

The news has deeply saddened me. It was an honour to have known such a great person. I enjoyed talking to him when he came to Hong Kong for auditing and I truly miss him. May God embrace the family in comfort during this difficult time.
