I will always miss you and will never forget what a true friend you were. I wish I would've had the chance to visit you in Alaska like we talked about. You will forever be in my heart

We used to talk about taking road trips together once I left this ship.....it seems like just yesterday we were talking about how you were finally going to Alaska just like you told me you wanted when I first met you 2 years ago. I miss you and I hate that we never got to see each other again. Que diosito te tenga en su gracia

Castillo, thank you!!! Thank you for everything you did, not just for me but anyone that you came into contact with. You were the most honest, compassionate, humblest and hardest working person I've ever met. Even though you were younger than most, you showed us all how to live and treat one another. I will not forget our times underway together and our little jokes from aft. You are missed but never forgotten! I hope you have fair winds and following seas shipmate. Happy birthday, brother! God bless you and your family!

We had a very close knit group of 18 people throughout Coast Guard "A" school and Chris was a major part of that. Always the one you could count on for help, advice, and definitely a laugh. I regret that I wasn't able to see him as much as I would have liked when we were both stationed in Key West, but I will never forget the times that we did have. Calling the Thetis will never be the same without Chris on the other side of he radio. You'll be missed buddy.

Chris was such a great person and so much fun. You filled a huge void for me when my family left Kodiak Island a month before me. Without you I don't know how I would have done it. Even the simplest things like going to Walmart and playing in the toy section smacking balls with foam bats or looking up ghost stories and talking about them. You will be missed and I will never meet anyone like you again, I am glad I had the opportunity to meet you. I love and miss you. Leo Cechnicki

Chris will be greatly missed by all. He was so lovable and kind-- one of the most genuinely kind person I have ever met. I loved that he could make anyone laugh. I haven't seen Chris in over two years, but I know our friendship has lived on. I'm thankful for the contact we did keep over the past two years. Miss you Chris. See you one day, bud.

Chris was the first person who gave me the time of day when I reported to Key West as a single, 20 year old guy moving into a foreign area and knowing no one. Chris took me under his wing at work showing me the ropes of my job, hooking me up with what I needed to become successful, and also helped me out tremendously by moving into an apartment with me for two years. It's tough to reflect on my two years and seven months aboard the Thetis without thinking of Chris, he was always there. There was no one who was more genuine and no one who would go out of there way to help someone more than him. Just a very selfless person. The world could use more people like Chris. He was an extremely humble person too, so I know he would try to downplay all that myself and everyone else has to say, but we all know it's true. Chris, you will be missed. It was a privilege working with you and getting to know you as a friend. Thank you for being a great friend to me. I will never forget you. None of us will.

Chris was the first person I opened up to. He was the one that always made me smile when I didn't know how to. He gave me faith when I needed it most and showed me a better side to people. I will miss him with all my heart. I'll miss all of our long talks and nights out on duval. I'm honored to have had him as a friend. Love ya Chris!

Chris was one of my favorite people in A school. He was my go-to person when my best friend graduated. We were both underage so naturally we paired up a lot outside of class, eating most meals together while sharing random facts. He was always up for a new adventure with me. After graduation we still emailed and instant messaged every now and then but it was always like no time had passed between us. Chris is one of those rare people you never forget once they've been introduced in your life. You will always be missed and thought of Chris.

Chris was one of most motivated petty officers that I've had the pleasure of knowing throughout my career. His hard work and dedication for his profession and the Coast Guard was evident by all that knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire Castillo family as they mourn the loss of a great man.

Chris and I spent boot camp and our A school days together. We used to go up to the mini mart and buy snacks to include raw cookie dough; we would share that while we talked about our days and just life in general. In class he would always write to me "Golarz, fly me to the moon!" He brought smiles to anyone who was around him. Chris and his family have not left my thoughts and I miss him greatly.

Castillo was a great and funny person. We would talk about our favorite foods and how he would make Mexican food compared to my husband. I remeber I brought him some salsa once and he had some and had that face of pure joy. He was a very driven individual and a hard worker. I loved working with him and helping him get qualified at his unit. I will miss him greatly. I'm very sorry for your lose.
