RIP Chris. A fine instructor at Kneller Hall when I was there. One of the good guys.

My heartfelt condolences to the family of Chris Cheadle on his passing.

I met Chris during his time in Australia while he was on exchange with the Australian Army Band Corps. Chris was given the opportunity to spend time with a number of Australian Army Bands including the band in Sydney, where I was posted at the time. Chris fit in well with us crazy Australians, enjoying our lifestyle, warm weather and even our cold beer.

I can remember Chris being quite mortified when we told him about the various snakes and spiders that could kill you in Australia, although Chris displayed great humour and grace when he came to the realization our stories about drop bears were in fact a national pastime designed as a practical joke on our visitors.

In 2002 my wife and I had the good fortune to visit London and catchup with Chris, which was the last time I saw him. Over the years since then we traded the occasional email and exchanged banter on social media, usually with Chris making fun of Australia's cricketing efforts.

I find it sad that we never met again but I appreciated Chris's friendship over the years. May you rest in peace Chris.
