Christopher Collins Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 29, 2024.
Christopher Foster Collins passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on May 22, 2024, at the age of 62 years old. He was born April 5, 1962, in Galveston, Texas to Charles and Marjorie Collins. At the time of his death he was residing in Reno, Nevada.

Chris was raised in Lake Jackson, Texas and graduated from Brazoswood High School in 1980. Upon graduation, he went on to attend the University of Texas at Austin. While in college, he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, Gamma Iota chapter. He also received his MBA in Finance and Economics from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and subsequently attended executive education courses at Harvard, MIT and Oxford.

Although his degree and background were in Economics and Finance, he found himself drawn to project management and development in the Energy and Utility industry. His work created travel and business opportunities all over the world from North and South America, Africa, Asia and Australia. His experiences spanned projects for thermal and renewable generation and transmission projects from conceptual to final negotiation of purchase power agreements and financing. At the time of his passing, he was working for Hawthorne Renewable Energy as Director of Origination. He also served on the Housing Corporation Committee for the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, Gamma Iota chapter for many years.

In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his beloved Longhorns, golf, skiing, photography and traveling the world. Chris was very adventurous and traveled extensively to many countries including Russia, England, Germany, Hungary, Spain, France, Austria, India, Japan, China, Indonesia and Australia. He was fortunate to have all these experiences and really enjoyed seeing and absorbing other cultures. One of the endeavors he was most proud of was his experience of Running with the Bulls of Pamplona. He loved it so much he did it TWICE.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Walter and Anna Mary Foster, his paternal grandparents John and Jennilyn Collins, and his parents, Charles Collins and Marjorie Collins.

He is survived by his brother, Jeff Collins (wife Christy); his sister, Libbie Collins Coleman (husband Scott); his nephew Jackson Collins; his niece Ainsley Coleman and many friends and extended family.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in Austin, Tx at the UT Alumni Center Legends Room.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to donate in honor of Chris to the Longhorn Foundation, Austin Pets Alive, or charity of your choosing.

Chris and I met in MBA school. We had a great affinity for each other. Same age. Same political affiliation. We had a blast in school. It was wonderful to catch up with him to learn about energy (and eventually food!) Chris would be all in on MAHA! God bless his family. I know he be missed. He will be missed by his GSB Chicago classmates too
