Christopher Combs Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 4, 2024.
Christopher B. Combs, aged 62, passed away on November 24, 2024 at Hospice of Cincinnati. Chris was a devoted father to Janiel and Genesis. The loving son of Marge and brother to Michelle (Joe) Hempel, Patrick (Michele) and Matthew (Christy). Chris was a caring uncle, cousin and friend to many. He is reunited with his father, Charlie, in Heaven.

Chris was the Executive Director of Coalition of Care, a ministry responding to God's mandate to care for orphans and vulnerable children. This was Chris's lifelong passion. In his work, his heart of compassion and empathy touched countless families over the years.

Chris was a lifelong soccer player and coach. A patient man with a quiet demeanor, most of his coaching was not on the sidelines but as a mentor and friend to his players. He made countless mission trips over the years sharing grace and love with others. Chris was always up for an adventure and often had a funny story or anecdote from his travels. He will be missed for his quick wit and contagious smile.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, January 18th from 4-7pm at the Cooper Creek Event Center, 4040 Cooper Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45241. Donations in Chris's name may be made to Coalition of Care. https://giving.myamplify.io//app/giving/coalitionofcare

I will always remember Chris putting a piece of pie in his pocket to save it for later

I first met Chris when I was in my first year as a social worker at Focus on Youth. He was meeting with the founder and Director Cindy Skinner. He was always a supporter of vulnerable children's ministries. As I moved through my career Chris continued to support the programs I was working in and was a trusted thought partner and friend.

I met Chris through a professional effort to get people with disabilities their rightful Social Security and Medicare benefits. The only reason the people were not getting the Social Security benefit and Medicare coverage was because a loved one (family member usually) completed the application wrong. Chris joined this effort to correct the wrongly submitted application for fair evaluation of the benefit based on new and accurate information, and the criteria of law.

The above illustrates Chris, a man of God, who cared enough to right a wrong for people he never met and who he may never meet. Chris cared about people, period. Chris and his staff are the Coalition of Care literally and figuratively.

My deepest condolences to the family. It was an honor to know him.

I met Chris on a mission trip to Nicaragua quite a few years ago. Trips with the Tin Roof Foundation were always meaningful and adventurous. Chris's heartfelt and joyous devotion to the TRF mission created an atmosphere of joy within our whole group. May he now rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to Chris's family. He will be remembered as a gentle giant who had a big heart and a warm smile. He answered the call with a "Yes" and didn't look back. Miss you brother! Sharen Ford, Focus on the Family
