Dear Chris, Over a year has passed since you left us and I still can't believe it. You certainly gave us all a lesson, "a friend is a precious jewel". Thank you very very much for opening the door of your home to me and to many others that came before and after me and found a safe and homey place to stay. In your house we found the way to stand up, to try again, to keep going until we finally reached our own paths for good. I am sure that GOD has rewarded you with well deserved peace. Love, Sonia (Si Chica!)

It's been one month today, and it's still feels as though Chris will drop in for his usual visit, by bike, car or trike, on his social rounds.
Our family first met Chris when my brother Blair worked with him at the Devon Golf Course. He soon became like family, spending many Sunday dinners at our home, pruning the cross-country ski trails, or accompanying a group of friends out to our property for some snowshoeing or a ski and a glass of wine. In the summer, he loved coming to the cabin at Pigeon Lake for a visit and a sail.
Chris was entertaining and never short of an opinion! He loved sharing his stories, the latest joke, his adventures, new ideas, or techno tips. He was open, honest, and up on the current events.
Although Chris faced several challenges over the years, he had this relentless persistence and optimism. He had the contagious enthusiasm of a little boy that just kept him going through thick and thin, when many would have thrown in the towel and moved on.
Chris was always quick to lend a hand, or a shoulder when needed. He was a very dear friend, very generous with his time and resources, thoughtful and considerate.
He loved nature, gardening, skiing, canoeing, windsurfing, to name a few and later studied Spanish and salsa. He shared vegetables from his garden, shared his beautiful home that Don designed, enjoyed music and hosting a local band, volunteering at the Edmonton Heritage Festival, and helping others when possible. He had many friends from various backgrounds but he never forgot his roots.
Chris loved his travels over the past several years, visiting such places as Curacao, Korea, Vietnam, & Portugal. Chris told me about a very touching story when he entered a church in Portugal, and distinctly felt the presence of his father, recently deceased. It was at that moment the church bell rung and he knew it was from his father. He felt a great sense of peace and connection.
Chris our good friend, you are forever in our hearts and are dearly missed. May you feel peace once again and enjoy your travels, wherever you are.

Thanks for everything, we'll love ya always,

The Bittorf family: Rae, Blair, Graeme, Wiz, Marin; & Keith Wensel

Chris, you are gone but not forgotten. We have not crossed paths for many years but I always remember with fondness the good times we did have. You were always one of the "good guys". Quick with a smile and quick with your wit.

Take care my friend.

Condolences to Chris's family.

I am sad to hear of the loss of Chris. I always enjoyed his company and many good times. Dancing at the Rancho Sanchez with Kinky Kenny, Norbaum and the gang, spring skiing, Jasper, Sunshine, Vail, Van Morrison, lounging at the house in Devon, Fernie with the Berrettis and tons more. Just not enough in the past 10 years.

Life gets in the way.

I will never forget the times that Chris was there for me when I was facing challenges - more than once. I always regretted not having enough opportunity to return the kindness to him when he was in need. But he was a survivor and a kind, giving, thoughtful friend. I will miss him - too much.

Lots of love from Dale Windle and family, Susan. Jamie and Morgan.

Wow! Amazing to find out that Chris is gone. Living and Devon and going to school with Chris was a lot of fun. We were pretty good chums until I moved to Wetaskiwin. Chris's dad made us some pole (tree) climbing spikes in the shop for us. Kept us busy and amused for hours. The trails at the river as well as the hours on the ski hill. Glad that you had a very interesting career and life. Cheers

My sweetheart Chris:
Since the first day I meet you, I loved you. My heart is full of beautiful memories: lakes, rivers, hug mountains, romantic and happy moments, hopes, smiles and love. You have been the most beautiful part of my life. Thank you for everything you gave me, for everything you shared with me and for everything you showed me.

When your father died I told you something nice and now, in my sadness, I repeat this to myself, to your family, to your friend, to all people who love you

"When a door is closed here in the earth - a window is open in the heavenï" Look at the sky and find a new star. it is Chris.

You will be in heart for ever. I will love you forever.

God bless you mi amor.

Once he was here
now he is gone
I will miss
the laughs
the tears
the smiles
we shared
my life has no direction
no ups nor downs
no smiles or frowns
I miss him
I cry
I see him
I lie
But I will never ask why
I understand and I accept and respect
But I will always miss you
Never fun again and laugh to tears
Never taking pictures somewhere
Never talking about opportunities
Never those stories again
My very best friend Chris
It is like it is
Thanks for being in my life
It was my privelege to know you
Never will I have a friend like you again
It will be forever empty in one part of my heart

Your Dutch buddy Henk

I'm so sorry to learn of this. I just talked to Chris a few days ago. What happened?

July 4, 2010

Dear Karen, Trina, Blair and families,

I am so shocked and saddened to learn of Chris's passing.

Chris and I are second cousins, and we used to see each other occasionally as kids when Wes and Louise came to Lougheed to visit the Storbakkens.

We hadn't been in touch much since Auntie Annie died, but after I moved to Edmonton I ran into Chris several times while I was walking and he was biking in the Oliver district near my apartment. It was great to chat and catch up a bit on family news.
As a result, Chris joined our family website, and I'd be happy to invite any of you who would also like to join.

He will be missed.

With heartfelt sympathy,

Donna Cookson Martin

My Dearest Friend,

I am so very sad and heavy hearted to learn of my dear friends passing. Chris was there for me during difficult times. Our deep conversations and Chris's wisdom remain inside to help guide me in my journey of life. My memories of Curacao with Chris will forever remain. The Fireworks we saw that New Years Eve were magical. I will look up to the skies my dear Chris and see you smiling back at me with that wonderful sparkle that was forever in your eyes. When I walk through the doors Chris I will long for your embrace. I will meet there that I know. Love you always, Margaret

Dear Chris, I am so sorry to learn of your passing. Thank you for all the precious moments like the time you took me on my first and only Nordeg to Rocky Mountain House Canoe trip. If you had not, Susan and I would not have met and our sons never born. Also, thank you for my last moment with you. You comforted me by sharing a Double Chivas, no ice and water on the side.
