Christopher DiGiulio Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 8, 2023.
Christopher Peter DiGiulio, M.D., 57, passed suddenly on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 due to complications of a pulmonary embolism. He was surrounded by his loving family. Chris was the beloved husband for 30 years to his best friend and soul mate Yoli DiGiulio (Canahuate), D.M.D. Chris was a devoted and loving father to their three beautiful sons, Domenic Antonio 24, Marco Xavier 20, Luca Christopher 17. Chris' family was the center of his universe and the gravity of his being.

Chris was born on May 1, 1966 in Lansdale, PA and is survived by his mother, Bernadette Burdick DiGiulio, father, Peter Vincent DiGiulio and his stepmother, Eleuza DiGiulio. Chris was a loving brother to his sister Michelle C. Scanzano and his brother, Robert B, DiGiulio.

Chris was a native of Cherry Hill, New Jersey. He was a graduate of Rutgers University Business School, 1989 and he continued his post graduate education at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, receiving his MD in 1998. Chris completed his residency in Family Practice at Virtua Health Systems, Voorhees, New Jersey, where he was Chief Resident. Chris earned a Master of Science in 2022 from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Calling Bend, Oregon home since 2007, Chris served the medical needs of his community, most recently as Partner and Medical Director of Mountain Medical Urgent Care. Prior to that, Chris worked for 12 years in the Oregon State Prison system, initially as a Medical Director and eventually became the Chief of Medicine for the entire State of Oregon Department of Corrections. During his tenure, Chris worked to develop comprehensive medical treatment plans and advanced the quality of medical care for all incarcerated adults in the state of Oregon. Chris was a dedicated, passionate and caring physician to his patients and truly enjoyed the practice of medicine throughout his career. He was an exceptional listener first and was invested deeply in caring for the physical and emotional needs of his patients.

Chris was a kind, generous, humorous, loyal man, who was a devoted husband, father, brother, son, uncle, godfather and friend. He kept his allegiance as a Philadelphia sports fan, enjoyed outdoor adventures with his family and loved to travel. Chris was a die-hard "Romanista" who shared his love of Italy with his family. He was bigger than life, a charismatic man. With his strong voice, captivating presence and gentle heart he shared his innate wisdom that touched those who were fortunate enough to be part of his life. Chris touched so many with his words and healed many others with his medicinal skills. His passing leaves an enormous hole in countless hearts around our world.

There will be two Celebrations of Life planned for family and friends to gather and remember Chris. The first will be a celebration held in New Jersey on August 19, 2023 and the second will be a celebration in Bend, Oregon on September 2, 2023, one for each of his lives. Details will be made available on Facebook and via a memorial website for Chris.

I was a patient of Dr. DiGiulio´s when he was still practicing in Cinnaminson, and the last time I saw him was in the Philly airports - he was traveling to the west coast with his wife, and my wife and I were going to the south west. He was a really good doctor; gave me some good advice when I did something stupid that caused a visit and I´m gonna miss him a lot.

Dr. DiGuilio treated me at mountain medical. Even at the first contact with him, he really saw me as a person, and I felt that he genuinely wanted to see me get better. He had a great way of explaining things that made them easy to understand. I was shocked to hear of his passing. I hope his memory brings comfort to his loved ones and his love, healing and impact is felt for many generations to come.

I just today learned of Chris´s death. I am horribly shocked and deeply saddened by this horrible news. Although I only knew Chris for a couple of years his beliefs and his passion for life deeply impacted me. He always spoke with such all-encompassing love for his family. His wife and his sons were, indeed, everything!!!! He also loved the practice of medicine and cared deeply for his patients. I consider myself so fortunate for having met him. Even though several months have passed since his passing, I know that his family continues to grieve. My thoughts are with them all.

My son and I recently became patients of Dr DiGiulio - I had not had a primary doctor is many years. After my illness in December I appreciate him so much and the time, kindness and consideration he gave us in so many ways was so very appreciate. We loved hearing about his family, son's and wife along with the Italy family. I am so sorry for your loss and he is missed by my family as well.

I worked with Dr. Yoli and met Dr. Chris when he would come into the office and I absolutely love his mother Bernie. I haven't seen them in years since they've moved to Bend Oregon, but enjoyed seeing Yoli's and Bernie's post on social media. My heart breaks for this amazing family and will keep them in my prayers.

I unfortunatley lost contact with Chris when he moved out west, but we went through a lot together at Temple when I was an undergrad and he was doing post-baccalaureate classes. He was a sharp guy, knew how to succeed, got things done and took care of his friends along the way. I learned so much from being around him and we both ended up in med school at Temple, with Chris just a few years ahead of me. Thanks for everything brother.

I first met Chris when he interned at Tatem Brown Family practice. I followed him as a patient to Cinnaminson family practice. We became friends as well as patient/doctor. We stayed in touch after his move to Bend. He was such a great person. You could talk to him about anything. I am truly sorry he is gone so young. My condolences to his wife and boys.

I am so saddened hearing of Chris´ passing. I worked with him at the Dept of Corrections in Health Services and his empathy, compassion and kindness for his patients was exemplary. He explained complicated issues with patience and asked insightful questions when discussing issues. Chris was very kind to me personally when a family member of mine was struggling with an issue and Chris took the time to sit with me and listen and share his own experiences. The world is less because of his departure. Condolences to the family.
