On the 12th anniversary of his passing, our family reflects on the sacrifice Capt. Soelzer made for all of us. We will never forget him.

To the family of Capt. Christopher F. Soelzer:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 26 May 2013. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.

The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.

I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).

Chris was the Executive Officer of my Company while I was stationed in the 5th ENG BN at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He was the only one in the comapanies chain of command that was easy to talk to and that actually gave the Soldiers the feeling that he cared and would go out of his way to assist them. Loosing Chris is of course a great loss to his family and all that knew him. But the Army has also suffered a great loss. A terrific Leader and couragous Hero, Chris can not be replaced.
I miss his laugh, his friendship and his mentorship!
My deepest condolances to the family.

Captain Soelzer's courage and contributions to our country will not be forgotten. I was in Balad, Iraq when I learned of the attack and while I didn't know him or his colleagues, I had heard of what they'd accomplished throughout our region and knew we had suffered a profound loss. My deepest condolences.

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

My heartfelt sympathy to the Soelzer family in the loss of Christopher. I did not know Christopher, but my heart is broken and I am saddened for your loss of such a fine young person and hero. May God bring you peace in your heart as you reflect on all the wonderful memories you hold so close. Please know that you are in my heart and prayers. I don't know if any of you will remember me or not, I was a friend of Chris and Travis's when I lived out in Rapid City. In fact Chris brought Steve in for a few haircuts from me. I am sorry to hear about your great loss. I loved Chris very much and I will miss him always. You raised a very great man.

My condolences are with the family of Chris. My friends and I lived near him in Rapid City while he attended SDSM&T and I will always remember him with great fondness.He always had a kind word and at the very least a humorous point to make. It greatly saddened me today when I heard of his death. I am so sorry, my prayers are with you.

Thank You Chris. My husband is in the military and we have 2 nephews in Bagdad and one in Afganiston. Our prayers are with you and your family and we will never forget the ones who lost their lives for us.

We send our condolences to your family in this time of sadness. Our son is serving as a medic in Iraq and also believes in what he is doing. With every life lost we all experience the loss and send prayers of comfort to the families of the soldiers. Words seem inadequate at this time. May God bless and keep you.

I did not know Chris very well but had the opportunity to work with him and I was always surprised by his kind nature and self-less acts; he had a kind word for everybody. One of these self-less acts was going to a distant and far off land to protect those of us at home. It takes a very special person to be able to do this. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends. Rest assured that Chris is watching over us as an Angel.

Chris is truly an American Hero, his sacrifice for keeping us free will never be forgotten. He made a memorable impact on a lot of lives including my family, he was my brother Joe's best friend. He will be greatly missed.

My prayers are with Chris's family. Chris was a wonderful person and a very good friend. Every time Chris was in town he made an effort to take Kathy and I out to lunch. Chris even drove to St Louis to see me and take me out to dinner when I was there for a convention. When my son was killed in an auto accident Chris and Darrell were the first ones to bring flowers. Chris was a great support to me and I will truly miss him!

I have know Chris sence grade school I remember him the most becaus we always picked on each other and I had a big crush on him. He was really a great person. It is hard to belive that he has left us. My husband (Justin Woods) who also new Chris well we have spent the last few days sence Christmas when we found out talking about how hard it is to belive and about all the things that we remember about him. We are going to try and come home for the funeral but can not be sure if we will make it yet. I just wanted to make sure that I let his family know that we are thinking about them and to let them know that they are all in our prayers. We will never forget you Chris.
