Christopher Gansburg Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 11, 2025.
Christopher Jon Gansburg, 56, passed away on June 4, 2025 in Exeter, New Hampshire. Born on March 4, 1969 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Chris lived a life marked by laughter, connection, and a deep devotion to his family.

Chris graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1987 and went on to attend the University of Southern Maine. During his college years, Chris pursued his love for baseball and embraced life with the enthusiasm and humor that would become his trademark.

Known for his magnetic personality and quick wit, Chris left an indelible impression on everyone he met. Whether behind the bar or out on the golf course, he was always ready with a joke and a smile. As a beloved bartender, Chris earned more than just tips-he created genuine friendships through his remarkable ability to connect with people. Chris proudly referred to himself as a professional golfer and long drive champion, titles he wore with confidence and good humor.

As a devoted Boston sports fan, Chris followed every game with unwavering passion and intensity. His spirited commentary could rival any broadcaster's, delivered with the same fervor whether cheering from home or among friends.

Above all else, Chris took immense pride in being a father and grampy. He deeply loved his children, his son Nevin and daughter Sydney. He especially treasured the time and memories created around the dinner table, watching sports, laughing, grilling, and spending time by the fire pit. Chris also shared a special bond with his beloved dog, Charlie Brown Gansburg.

Chris is survived by his father, Gary Gansburg; his son Nevin and daughter-in-law Mackenzie Gansburg; his daughter Sydney Gansburg; grandchildren Maverick, Kaiden, and Sebastian; sisters Elizabeth Hatfield and her husband David, and Rebecca Sankey and her husband Larry; as well as several nieces and nephews. Chris was predeceased by his mother, Nancy Gansburg, and grandparents Otto and Yvonne Krause.

A Wake will be held on June 17, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State Street, Portsmouth. A Celebration of Life will follow on June 18, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at The Red Barn at Outlook Farm, 310 Portland Street, South Berwick, Maine.

Chris will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. May his memory live on in the laughter he sparked, the stories he shared, and in all those that were blessed to have known him.

I just miss you at random times. Like right now. I wanna tell you about stuff, laugh about it together. I´m so happy I was able to be there Wednesday and meet your people; it was beautiful! I thought it would be closure for me but what your amazing son helped me realize is that we will carry you with us from this day forward. I love that much better than "closure" because you had a profound influence on my life that will live on in my heart and actions forever. I´m selfish to want more days, but I find comfort that you aren´t hurting anymore. I love you Chris! And it was an honor to meet the amazing children you raised, your rock Katryn, and your girlfriend Jen, who loved you so much. I will miss you forever. And wear your Bruins hat proudly.

Gansburg Family. Sorry of the loss of Chris. We went to STA together, had classes together and played baseball. Great times and memories of Chris. We had a small, informal, STA reunion where Chris, Other members of STA had shared some great memories a couple years back. Stay Strong through this time.

My husband and I met Chris when he worked at Massimo´s wine bar upstairs. He was always so charming with a smile on his face and a funny joke to tell. Chris was the main reason we enjoyed going to this particular bar and it was never the same after he left. He was more than a bartender we happened to meet; he became our friend.

My sincere condolences to his family...He always spoke so highly of his children and grandchildren. Rest easy my friend and I look forward to seeing you again in heaven one day.

I only met Chris once. while he was working at Al Dente in St. Johns, FL. My daughter introduced us since they were good friends. Some time after that, knowing how much I love quotes and inspirational sayings, that same daughter, Vicki, suggested I send one to Chris since he was struggling at that time. Since I am no stranger to struggles myself, I was happy to share and thus started a nearly year long journey of sending Chris some sort of daily inspiration. I think it was good for both of us. He would always like or love each thing I would send and I would know that he was 'okay' for the day. On occasion he would thank me and tell me how much my daily thoughts meant to him. I miss you, Chris, but it gives me some solace to know you are now at peace.

I remember when Tim and I would go to Cafe Med every Friday night. Chris would come around the bar to give us hugs as soon as we entered and then he would bring us our drinks as we waited for a seat at the bar. Having a front row to Chris´s humor was amazing! Cafe Med was our favorite place because of Chris. I will miss you! I have no doubts that your spreading joy and laughter in heaven!

Very sorry to learn of Chris's passing. I knew him well at St. Thomas Aquinias. Always could be counted on to be upbeat and greet you with a smile. I knew him as a student and as an athelte. He was a team player and highly motivated during the time he was on the field. He was an inspiration to his fellow teammates, a player that had no quit in him. As director of athletics I always had a number of pre game chores before games. He was always prepared to lend assistance in preparing the fields for playing the game. Always a pleasure to have Chris stop by the office with a question or a comment. I will miss him. Dick Spaulding, Coach.

My condolences and prayers to all who were related to Chris, or were lucky enough to have him cross their path in life's journey. I was lucky enough to spend time with Chris on about a half dozen occasions. I cherish those memories and have one special day that was spent laughing so hard that I cant think about him without remembering those magical times and grin. It was honestly one of the most fun days I have had in a long long time. And I'll end with this, Chris had many of those times with many people, he was truly one of a kind and I miss him already.

Gansburg family-
My sincerest condolences to you all. Chris and I were roommates at AIC before he left for Southern Maine. We crossed paths a few times, once at Massimo´s restaurant and then years later at Sea dog in Exeter. We obviously picked up right where we left off in the late 1980s. I can´t begin to tell you how much fun we had in those few short months together in college. My heart aches for all of you. Much love, Paul Landry

Sorry I can´t attend his Celebration of life. Hold on to the memories of happier times. Someone once wrote that the day will come when the memories make you smile instead of cry. It´s true, though there is no timeline and while it seems impossible that day will come. Love to all of you
