Christopher Jay Godshall

Christopher J. Godshall M.D., age 55 of Mocksville, NC, passed away at home early Monday April 1st 2024. He was surrounded by his family as he finally succumbed to his long battle with Myasthenia Gravis.

He was an amazing person in so many ways. He was deeply passionate about everything he did. He excelled as a physician and vascular surgeon. After graduating from Temple University medical school, he trained at the University of Louisville as a general surgeon. He went on to complete a vascular fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. He then returned to the University of Louisville to establish and quickly build a thriving vascular practice. He went on to join the Vascular Surgery Department at Wake Forest Baptist Health again earning the respect and admiration of those around him. His clinical practice came from a place of love and caring for those he treated. He enthusiastically shared his knowledge and surgical skills with all levels of medical trainees, modeling the importance of care for the entire patient, well beyond the surgical procedure. In concert with his pursuit of a Masters in Adult Education Chris assumed the position of Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education. As an administrator he was fearless in his pursuit of excellence in each of the training programs he held sway over. Beyond medicine and his love of family, Chris had a lifelong passion for music - an awe inspiring, energetic pianist who played for the love of music. When he could no longer practice the medicine he loved he dug into woodworking and created beauty there as well. After having a tracheostomy hampered his woodworking, he quickly learned to rebuild and repair cars. His two girls each have a hybrid now because he learned to rehab batteries as well as engines. He has passed so much of his passion and fire to his girls that they will have no choice but to leave a mark on the world. We are all sad to see him leave but we know that he is no longer carrying the painful burdens of the broken body he found himself in in the end.

He is survived by his wife Deborah Godshall, his daughters Brianna and Jessica as well as his brother Jon Godshall of Souderton, PA, his half-sister Ashley Amundson of San Diego, CA and his mother Stephanie Brodine M.D. of San Diego, CA.

Memorial service will be held at WinMock in Bermuda Run, NC (outside of Winston Salem) on JUNE 29th from 2-4pm.
