Dear Becky, I just today found out about Chris's passing. I am so sorry to hear this. Chris was in my class in Greenport and he was a great classmate. He will always be remembered as a great athlete. One thing I will always remember about Chris is he tolerates cold weather very well. I remember it being quite cold and Chris was walking around in short sleeves! You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers and I send my condolences. When I read Chris's book I wrote hime a note and he wrote me back. It was great to hear from him. He loved his family in a big way. Sincerely, Diane (Ship) Oates

Dear Becky, we just found out about Chris's passing and want you to know we're thinking of you at this sad time. I was so fond of Chris although we hadn't spent much time together since we were children and our grandmothers were pushing us in strollers together. With love and prayers, Betsy (Hays) and John Gatti

Becky. You don't know me. Chris was a very good friend to my brother Bruce. He acted as a color guard at his funeral. I am so sorry for your loss. He was a fine person and I will remember him always as a sweet, kind person. He helped us thru a very difficult time in our lives.

Growing up (in East Marion, NY) Chris was a leader I looked up to. I remember him coming across the street to get Margo whom my mother was watching. Bare foot and in shorts with snow on the ground. I am Praying for your loss.

I met Chris when he rode my S.E.A.T bus to work every day. Will miss his humor. Glad I got a copy of his book. I will miss him dearly.

Back when I was a columnist at The Day, I often received emailed comments from Chris. We didn't always agree, but he was consistently thoughtful, eloquent, informed, witty, and honest about all our human shortcomings. I learned from him, and extend my sincere sympathy to his family. - Bethe Dufresne, Old Mystic
