Christopher Mark Rhodes, 68, of Lexington passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022, at his home.

Mr. Rhodes was born in Stanly County, NC on July 25, 1954, to Richard Ivan Rhodes and Martha Lee Barnes Rhodes. He was previously a popular and respected English teacher at Lexington Senior High where he imparted a love of literature to his many students. He later served as executive director and retired from the Catawba Valley Association of Realtors. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Clay Rhodes.
Mr. Rhodes was a proud graduate of Appalachian State University and an active supporter of the YOSEF Club. He received his master’s degree in English from UNC-G. Always a lover of music, he played guitar and sang, and was a devoted follower of Bob Dylan.

He will also be remembered by his dear friends, Jackie Byrd, Carol and Danny Leonard, and Dan Davis.

Remembering our High School years.
The fun and laughter among friends. Shenanigans of our youth. And always the music. Be at peace, surrounded now by the most beautiful of music. My sincerest condolences to Chris's family and may you all find comfort in loving memories of him in the difficult days that come.

Chris will always be remembered as an inspiring teacher, an excellent musician, a lover of music (especially Bob Dylan and Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys), and as someone who was truly gifted, unique, and creative. He was and always will be a shining light who blessed us all. There is no one else who has ever had as much influence on my own life, having known one another since the 7th grade and through all the years beyond--including college and the creative life we shared together. There are no words for what he meant to me and still does, nor for the depth of gratitude for what his presence brought to my life and into the lives of so many others. May there be comfort and peace for his children and family, and for all of us who are reluctant and saddened to now share him with that heavenly "band of angels."

Chris was my brother in mischief and music from our days in Middle School to ASU and beyond. Aside from being a great friend, a wonderful musician, an inspiration to many, and a truly funny guy, he was one of the most honest and sincere people I have had the pleasure to know. I admired him always for convictions. We all miss him terribly. My deepest condolences to all the family. Know that Chris was much loved.

Chris and I where best friends at Pickett Elementary School. In 1965 he started growing his hair longer and he encouraged me to do the same. When I think of Chris he is always smiling and that makes me smile.

Mr. Rhodes was one of my most favorite teachers. This saddens me. I am lucky that our paths did cross several years ago and I go to hear him play and sing. He was a great inspiration!

We always had fun in your class and you weren’t afraid of a controversial topic. You taught us to think. After High School seeing you mesmerized as you watched Marc Knopler play his steel guitar is one of my best memories.
