Christopher Terry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 4, 2025.
St. Clair Shores - Christopher Lee Terry, 77, a resident of St. Clair Shores, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. While Chris waged a long battle with cancer, he lived a full and active life until a few months before his death.

Chris was born on February 13, 1947, to Barbara and Sydney Terry, the oldest of their six children. He grew up in Grosse Pointe Farms, where he graduated from St. Paul's on the Lake High School. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, where he pledged the Delta Tau Delta fraternity and began his lifelong devotion to everything Maize and Blue.

After receiving his law degree from Wayne State University Law School in 1972, Chris became a highly respected litigation attorney in Detroit, where he practiced for more than forty years. As an attorney, he was known both for his thoughtful and passionate advocacy and for his integrity.

At home, Chris was devoted to his three children, whom he always led with love, patience and good humor, no matter how difficult the circumstances. He was also a beloved grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Chris would pick you up when you were down, lend you an ear when you needed to talk, give you his shoulder to cry on, share a few words of comfort and wisdom, or just tell a silly joke that made you laugh until you cried. He was the best of us.

Chris was also an adoring husband to the love of his life, Mary. They traveled extensively, were active members of the Detroit Athletic Club and regularly entertained friends and family for dinners, game days and all sorts of gatherings. Chris and Mary shared many special family celebrations, including graduations, birthdays, weddings and the births of three beautiful granddaughters. Their most cherished moments, however, were the quiet evenings and early sunrises that they shared only with each other.

Besides his beloved Mary and the rest of the David family, Chris leaves behind his son Chris "C.T." Terry (Nina) and daughter Sheila Eddy (Jordan), their mother Laura Fisher Terry Bogdan, granddaughters Catherine, Aria, and Caroline, his two brothers, Mark (Kathi) and Lee (Kathy), his three sisters, Sheila Tomkinson, Kathleen Terry and Martha Dempsey (Joe), as well as a host of cousins, nephews and nieces, and their respective spouses and children. Chris was preceded in death by his beloved son, Patrick Terry, his parents, Sydney and Barbara Terry, Mary's parents, Albert and Rose David, and his brother-in-law, Dr. James David.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that gifts be made to Racquet Up Detroit, a nonprofit organization that shares the game of squash, one of Chris's passions, with children in Detroit.
