I am so lost without you. You were one person I could talk to about anything. I just wish you were here with me. I wish I could hug you one last time. I wish I could tell you how much I love you. I wish you could have met my children. I still remember like it was yesterday..hugging your neck and not wanting to let go. I still remember how you smelt. I still remember asking you "what if you don't come back to me?" and you replied "don't worry bug, they can't catch me...I'll run as fast as I can." But it wasn't fast enough.... Please come back. I just want you here. I love you so much Uncle Chris!!!!

12 years last month since we all lost him. I think of Chris always, sometimes with tears, but always with a smile. I met Chris shortly after his deployment in 2004. Even with all things he endured while overseas, he was always so positive. He was brave, humble, and had one of the kindest souls. Always a gentleman who loved his family, friends, and country. I miss his big smile and dimples on that handsome face. I was lucky to know him and be a part of his life. To know him was to love him. Never forgotten. Forever in our hearts. All gave some, some gave all.

It doesn't seem like 14 years have passed since you left us.I still think about you and remember the good kid you were. Now as my nephew Ryan serves as a Navy Corpsman and has been deployed for the last 9 months I still think of you and say thanks for being the type of guy they can look up to and say I hope I can be as brave as Chris was. Thank you for being there for all of us. We will never forget you ...

Uncle Chris, you're on my mind today. I love and miss you so much. I wish we could've taken one last trip to Applebee's together before you left. I still remember what you were wearing and how you smelt when we said our last goodbyes. I'm going to have a son that's due in September and I promise to tell him about his amazing great uncle Chris. And what a great person you were and are. You aren't dead to me. You're still alive in my heart. I will see you one day. I love you!

Remembering Chris this memorial day. Not a day goes by that I don't think of Chris and his sacrifice. He was such a great person. Thompson family: We think of you often, but especially today.
It sounds like plans are progressing smoothly for the Thompson Station and Wall of Honor at N. Wilkes. I'm very excited for you and cannot begin to imagine how proud you must be.
I hope to see you on November 8th at the Coastal-Gardner Webb game. That game back in 2004 and the "test tailgating" is still one of my favorite memories. From Chris trying to grill food over three foot flames to dumping hot coals into a plastic bag (and subsequently onto my feet) was classic! And still my favorite story to tell because we all just laughed from beginning to end on that day.
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you always. Take care and we hope to see you soon. We love you all.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Christopher, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I lost another close friend the other day. As I am getting ready for the services today, I find myself thinking about you a lot, moreso than any other day. I wish I could talk to you about it, my friend. Somehow with your young age, you were a very wise person and always knew the right thing to say. Not a day goes by that something, anything, reminds me of you. Your goofy smile still makes me smile. I miss my Coastal football tailgating buddy. There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

To All Parents
“I’ll lend you for a little time a child of Mine,” He said.
“For you to love the While he lives and mourn for when he’s dead.
It may be six or seven years, or 22 or three,
But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He’ll bring his charms to gladden you, and shall his stay be brief.
You’ll have his lovely memories as solace and relief.
“I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return,
But there are some lessons taught down there I want this child to learn.
I’ve looked the wide world over in my search for teachers true
And from the throngs that crowd life’s lanes I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to take him back again?”
For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we’ll run.
We’ll shelter him with tenderness, we’ll love him while we may
And for the happiness we’ve known forever grateful stay;
But shall the angels call for him much sooner than we’ve planned.
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand.”

Geraldine, Larry, David, Jimmy. Bud and I grieve with you for the loss of Chris. We remember watching Chris grow up, (around 1985?)when he fell off the bleachers at Mt. Airy High School, and we thought he had broken every bone in his body, but by a miracle Chris missed the concrete pad and landed in the grass. Chris just jumped up and went back up on the bleachers again. We know you are proud of the fine young man he grew to be. We will keep you all in our prayers. Love Roy and Judy Poe

Dear Thompson Family,
I didn't know your son, but that's not important. I just read his story this morning and was moved to tears. All I can say to you is thank you. Thank you to you and your son for your sacrafice and your suffering, for your tears and your turmoil. I cannot express my deepest sympathy in words; even this morning I sobbed and I'm sure felt only a tiny piece of your pain. Please know that people are still praying for your comfort and peace in these still hard and painful times. It's thanks to people like your son that this country is free and great. He will never be forgotten, and now that I know his story I will pass it on to those who deserve to hear it so that his memory and legacy will survive him even longer. May God be with you and Chris now and always, just as you will always be in my mind.
With great love and thanks,

they'll live on in the heart.

Chris...happy, full of life, loving, caring, adorable, big smile, cute dimples...these are my memories of you.
I am so thankful to have had the pleasure of knowing Chris. No one has ever touched my heart the way Chris did. There are many that honor and remember him for his service. I honor him for that, and remember him for his friendship.
My anger is so strong because Chris didn't have a chance to live his plans and his dreams, it is overwhelming sometimes. Our futures have been changed by unforgivable events.
I have asked...when does the pain go away? I realize now that it doesn't, we only learn to live with it. I will think of Chris with a smile instead of tears one day.
To Chris's family...thank you for sharing your stregth and your love to "Chris's Myrtle Beach family". Your son was truly a blessing and he will be a part of my heart forever.
To Chris...Shine Bright!(Your Navy Mom I.L.)

Dear Thompson Family,
Words cannot describe our sorrow for your loss. We didn’t know Christopher but I am sure he was an outstanding human being. His dedication to his country, and his willingness to go in harm’s way to protect our way of life speak volumes for his character.
Your sacrifice cannot be fully understood by anyone who hasn’t been there, but we can tell you that Christopher did not die in vain. My father served in the Navy in WWII, my husband in the Army, and our son-in-law is currently a Marine. Freedom is not free, and the sacrifice made by your family is the ultimate tribute to our country.
God Bless you and your family in this time of need, and for all times. Know that there are many, many Americans who cry with you for your loss, wish we could enfold you in our arms, and thank you for your service and your sacrifice.

Just found out about your death. Worked with you in 2/2 during OIF II and have nothing but good memories about you. You're an awesome person and caring Corpsman. You took care of your Marines/Corpsman and gave everyone a smile. God bless you and your family. I'll see you on the flip side brother.
Miss your heart,

Chris's Dad told us that Chris was his "Hero". We will always remember those words. We think he and all the other young men and women like him are "Heros" of all the people of the United States. Life is so precious and so short. Chris has given his for all of us. What a special young man! He and his family will always be in our hearts and when my granddaughter grows up, I shall tell her about Chris when she asks me about the War in Iraq. He sacrificed everything for us. God Bless him and his family.

I am very happy to see the new postings on here every day. All the people that loved Chris and even those of that didn't know him. I still can't help but feel extremely angry that one of the good ones was taken. He always came over with an armful of rented movies and my children would fight to get to sit on Uncle Chris' lap for movie time. I really hate that that won't ever happen again along with all the others to never be again. I hate it! Please keep your entries coming. Mellisa

I can not express to Christopher's family how deeply sorry I am for your loss. Christopher was a GREAT friend of mine who I had spoken too before the accident and even under the high stress situation and the danger, he still continued to do everything in his power to make me laugh and to keep me smiling. I am going to the Camp Lejeune area in January and I had sent him and e-mail about 3 weeks ago letting him know when I would be leaving my present command and letting him know the new address that he could e-mail me at until then and when I didn't recieve anything back I began to worry...I didn't find out until today November 15th, almost 1 month after the accident that Chris had been taken unto the Lords hands. "Doc" Thompson was one of the finest Corpsman that I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and he always has been and always will be MY HERO!! Chris...I love you buddy.

Dear Family and Friends of Christopher Thompson:
I did not know this young man. I am from North Wilkesboro and heard of his untimely death. I know in my heart that he is with God. All that I have read about Chris tells me that he is a child of God. It breaks my heart that such a young man as this has been taken from those who love him. Reading about him made such an impression on me. I know that he must have been a very brave young man; a man you can be proud of. It is such a tragic loss. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless You.
