Christos Vardouniotis Obituary
Christos "Chris" G. Vardouniotis Christos Vardouniotis, 73, of Aurora joined the Lord on Thursday, June 25, 2015. He was born on March 29, 1942 in Kandyla (Tripolis), Greece. Survivors include his wife, Anastasia (Kandalepas) Vardouniotis of Aurora; his sons, Dean Vardouniotis and Bill Vardouniotis of Aurora and his sisters, Athanasia (Christo) Deligiannis and Marigo (Angelo) Tountas of Montreal, Canada. In addition he is survived by many close and loving cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Constantinos and Eleni Vardouniotis. He left Greece in 1965 after serving in the Navy and went to Montreal, Canada where he worked for many years. A few years after arriving in the USA he married his wife Anastasia in 1976. He was the long time owner along with his wife of the Select Restaurant in Boulder Hill from 1977 - 2004. He cherished the relationships established throughout the years with his patrons. He was a member of Saint Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church in Aurora, the Pan Arcadian Association and the Kandyla "Kekrops" Society. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 30 at 11:30 AM at St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church, 1855 E. Fifth Ave. Aurora. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 29, from 4-8 PM at The Healy Chapel, 332 W Downer Pl. Aurora. The Trisagion Service will be held at 6:30 PM. Interment will take place at Lincoln Memorial Park, Aurora in the St. Athanasios Section. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Athanasios Cemetery Fund c/o St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church. It has been a blink in time since we lost a proud father, since then I’ve lost my own parents! Chris always treated them like family! I would bet they have caught up in Heaven! And have many things to talk about! Bill and Dean I know you’re dad was so proud of you! And through the years it was with delight to hear the stories of you two!
All good I promise. Still I have a huge void but it is peaceful knowing all the good works your father did! Did you know he is God Father to my daughter Catherine? I would tell you she was very fond of your dad! I have a treasure of stories I should share with you two. I met your father in The early 70’s and what an honor to have had such a good friend.

To: The Vardouniotis Family, my sympathy. Paul Polito asked me to drive him to see his friend Chris, while Paul was here for my son's wedding. I only got to know Chris just that one afternoon but my life was enriched by this most kind and good hearted friend of Paul. Chris was that rare person of wisdom that I will never forget. His brilliance,good heartedness, and genuine compassion for his fellowman were always present
in his caring way. I was blessed to get a glimpse of this remarkable Humble servant of the Lord. I know this man is at peace in heaven. I will never forget this most descent man whose values all of us should try to follow.

My deepest sympathies to the Vardouniotis family. I am so blessed to have had such an incredible Godfather. I was very young when I last saw him, but the memories are some of my favorite. I will never forget being spoiled with chocolate chip waffles when we would go visit his restaurant, nor will I forget how happy and loving he was. I have always felt his love and support, even from a far distance. I am so thankful for his friendship to my father and our family. Thinking of his precious family in this time of loss, my heart and prayers are with you.

Vardouniotis family - I am so sorry for your loss. Chris has been a part of the Polito family for decades. In 1971, I remember driving my brother Paul to this new restaurant in Elkhart, IN because he wanted to get a job there. Paul was still too young to drive at that point. He got that job and gained a life-long friend and mentor. Goodbye for now, big-hearted Chris the Greek. I will be sure to find you when I get to heaven. I'll just listen for your laugh.

I can not even begin to tell you all that in 1972 I was put into Christos life I was 13 and Chris started to mentor me and had become part of my everyday life. I was a changed person and Chris was that one in a life time Friend that came along and believed in me, I can only tell you this He was the Sunshine in so many peoples life, He had a contagious smile and personality!

as I reflect on my life with Christos I will have an yearning void that will never be filled.
A few weeks ago I spent the day with Chris and He took me to a very nice Greek restaurant and we talked for hours and then I said good bye not knowing it would be forever! I know Chris is with our Lord and is at rest. Bill and Dean I have Photo's of my visit with your Dad and I would like to forward them to you. Again I am so sorry and will never forget your Father!
