Christy (Chris) Nelson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 1, 2025.
Christy (Chris) Lee Nelson passed away peacefully in her home in West Valley City, Utah, on May 27, 2025.

She was born May 29, 1957, in La Jolla, California, the daughter of Dorothy and Jack Van Gerven. Chris was married to Nile Nelson in 1975 and they have five children together.

She is survived by her children, Kodi Nelson (Heather), Brook Littleford (Dusty), Casey Nelson (Brandy Scharp), LaTosha Nelson, and Chance Nelson; her former husband, Nile Nelson; brother Steven Van Gerven (Terry); sisters Sherrie Van Gerven, Kelly Newman (Doug), and Joni Van Gerven; her seven grandchildren, Braydin, Kaylei (Joey), Ashlyne, Syah, Aevryn, Aria, and Remi; one great-grandson, Rhodes; and her dear friend Grethe Larson.

Chris was preceded in death by her brother Scott, mother Dorothy, father Jack, and her unwavering ally, Dale Larson.

Chris lived for her children and fought with Motherly love to support, raise, and protect them through good times and hardships. She enjoyed camping, music, and cooking for her loved ones. She was always the happiest when she could entertain and cook for family and friends, with the music blaring and her dancing in the kitchen. She was loved by many, and her spunky spirit will live on through the many people she impacted throughout her life.

She loved being part of the Church of Jesus Christ, especially her work with the Boy Scouts. She also loved caring for her many houseplants and enjoyed making those around her laugh. Her favorite pastime was sitting by the fire watching reality TV.

Chris was encouraged to "hold onto the rod" by following the word of God through the mist of darkness, knowing she'd find eternal life and happiness waiting for her.

Please join our family in honoring Chris and her life. A wake will held at 1pm on Wednesday June 4th 2025

I'm going to miss her, she always made me feel so good when she was around and she's such an inspiration. The way she really cared about other's and wanted to listen to them and hear about what was going on in their life, she always reminded me of my mom I can see them both, "out-listening" each other now, on the other side of eternity.

I am so saddened to learn that you have left us, and it´s difficult to process. You took my ability to smile with you, and I wonder if it will ever return. Thank you for being such a loving friend for such a long time. I will hold your memory close until my days are finished. Until we meet again.

For so many years, you and your family, were such an important part of Dales and my life. We watched you fight through difficult times and make your life better for both you and your great children. You were always in our thoughts and in our prayers. I know you and Dale were so happy to meet in heaven. I would have liked to watch the reunion. Love you Chris. Love Grethe Larson

My dear Mama Chris, my favorite memories of you are the moments you told me how much you loved me, how happy you were that your son chose me to be his wife, how adamant you always were about me being a part of the family, how you smiled so brightly when you were proud of your kids, and even all your annoying picture taking. And you were 100% right, we are grateful for them. You are so incredibly missed, Mama Chris. So much love to you in the party in the sky.
