Dear Jane, Wendy & Daniel:
We are not aware of the obituary in the Montreal Gazette until now. Ray was an eminent surgeon, scholar, gentleman, good friend and mentor to us. Through Jane, a colleague of mine, we have known Ray for more than four decades. Whenever we were in Montreal, Ray and Jane were a must for our visit. The fond memories of many scintillating conversations and gourmet dinners with the best French pastries are indelible in our minds. We admire, love and miss him immensely. His achievement is a beacon on a hill illuminating, enlightening, inspiring and motivating many including us.
With our condolence, admiration and appreciation.

I was driving home late from a long day in the operating room and thinking about how grateful I was to my friend and mentor Ray Chiu. i was thinking that I really needed to call him and tell him how important he was to me and how grateful i was to have met him and worked with him. i arrived home to find an email from Emma saying that Ray had died. A better man than Ray Chiu you'll have a hard time to find.

To the Chiu family, thank you. Thank you for sharing such a remarkable man who insisted on passing the torch to all those around him..even strangers who visited in his last days on Christmas Day when we had the true pleasure of meeting him. He shared his story so that we too can be encouraged to dream and to dream big! God bless you all.

Dear Chiu Family,
It was with great sadness that I learned about your loss. Dr. Chiu was a gentleman and an inspiration to me as a medical student when I did a Cardio-Thoracic rotation at MGH. I will never forget the hospitality he showed me as a visitor from Columbus, Ohio in Montreal, and I will always remember his kindness and compassion. He inspired me to not only be a better physician, but also person.
