Cindy BARNES Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 16, 2020.
BARNES, Cindy L. died August 10, 2020. It is with great sadness I need to spread the word of Cindy's passing. Her infectious laugh and spirit will be missed by anyone blessed to have had Cindy in their life. It is not fair to say Cindy left behind her loved ones, I firmly believe she carried every last one with her to heaven. Cindy was kind enough to leave us with her memory. May she rest in peace, until we meet again.

Idk if this is the same Cindy Mullin who was a diver at SIU her freshman year? I have been searching for her for years and just stumbled across this obituary : ( She was one of my best ever bff´s in college and we became roommates halfway through our freshman year, by choice ... funny story, actually. Cindy was such a genuine person who would do anything for her friends, even if it meant she was self-sacrificing. She also was so funny and would do and say kooky things just to make you laugh or to see what kind of response she would get! I´ve thought of Cindy so many times over the years. Sadly, Cindy was so homesick for Florida and her family that she ended up quitting college to go back home to be closer to her beloved family - I think she was the baby of her family and had older sister(s)? I just want her family know that she was loved and dearly missed when she didn´t come back to college and I´m sad I was never able to re-connect with her. If family can respond, I´d love to hear about her life after SIU and hope she had a fulfilling and happy life!
RIP Cindy

My aunt, my God mother, and most of ally friend. This has been a very hard pill to swallow... Aunt Cindy you will forever leave a impact on my life. The laughs, the tears, the pain, the happiness. Do we have memories. Those I will cherish forever. They say the good die young . Aunt Cindy you were one in a billion, no one quite like you to say the least. You always told me my daughters name was to long lol so we shortened it haha... Well now it's long again because she will carry on your middle name as I do... Journee Laine Cerise Murphy and I pray when she enters this world she brings a piece of you back in her. I miss you everyday, I miss our phone calls, our crazy video chats, our late nights, our casino trips, I even miss when we would argue ... How I wish we had just one more. Your soul is at peace and your with grandma which I know you missed her so very much... You have been the rock of the family and you always told me you were passing the torch to me. So it's with great honor I carry that torch . I will make you proud... I love you so much and you will forever be missed and remembered. Until we meet again... Fly high Aunt Cindy

Cindy you have always been the sunshine in everyone’s day at our high school. Your smile, infectious laughter, and endless humor is what I will always remember about you, (and your Gremlin car). You gave so much to make others happy, and I know heaven’s gates flew right open to receive such a beautiful person.

My Dear Friend through out the years and between the miles; her love and laughter filled my heart then, now and forever!!! My heart hurts for all of us; especially her closest family and friends. I hope that my condolences reach each of you and that you somehow feel my love. When someone is sad or alone reach out to them and make them laugh; that was Cindy's way. She filled our world with love and laughter and now she will be doing that in a new place and time. I will miss seeing you Cindy; but I will always carry you in my heart and soul.
Forever,
Therese (KJ)

My coach, my friend, my mentor - and to her, a son. So many stories to tell, so many great memories to share. You have touched my heart in a way that "Thank You" just does not suffice. You will always be a part of me. We were both givers and sometimes, we gave too much and forget to take care of ourselves. Cindy never asked for anything, but gave everything she could. You taught me to get know me and to find that balance. I thank you for your guidance, your love and compassion. Love, Always & Forever Your Son.

Cindy promoted my acceptance to my wife of now 20 years, her best friend in high school, Julie Shannon.
Always fun, always open, always truthful, always caring, always real! The woman was always the person to "Rip the Band-Aid" off the situation and end the moment with a kiss, and "I Love You!" Your body may be gone, but your soul lives on. May your God-daughter, Sydney, take that to New Orleans as she starts college and do good things for humanity and this planet in your name, I Love you Cindy. Your in my heart 4 ever.
Love - Rory Shannon

To say Cindy was a unique individual would be an understatement. She would attract people and they'd immediately become her friends. Her love of jokes, her infectious smile, her constant laughter and her sincere friendship endeared her to so many people. Cindy was a champion diver, a professional athlete, a teacher, a coach -- but to most, where will be remembered as a wonderful friend. She was indeed loved and she is indeed sorely missed, leaving a hole in the hearts of many. So, to Cindy, we say goodby. We say it with a tear, but also with a smile in remembrance of her infectious personality.
