Cindy Raabe Obituary

Cindy Raabe, 102

Cynthia April Agrin Raabe died on April 7, 2025 at the age of 102 at her home in Manhattan. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 1, 1923 to Hattie (Shanfeld) Agrin and Nathan Agrin.

Cindy graduated from Brooklyn College and continued on to earn a Master of Arts from Columbia University. She worked as a hair stylist on the side to "put her brother through medical school" – or so the story was told.

Cindy's primary career was as a director and producer of radio shows for New York Educational Radio (WNYE). In 1967, she won the Ohio State Award from the Institute for Education in Radio-Television for her series "People and Places: Brazil." She again won the award in 1981 for her series "Stories from The Marketplace: Inflation."

In 1958, Cindy became the Co-Director of Camp Ferosdel, a co-ed summer camp in West Copake, New York. Camp Ferosdel became the first Weight Watchers summer camp for girls; it closed in 1974.

Cindy was predeceased by her husband Zenon Raabe (camp director, photographer, and landscape architect), her daughter Peta Raabe (a Philadelphia-based landscape architect), her son Zenon Christopher Raabe (author and teacher at Rhode Island School of Design) and her brother Dr. Irving N. Agrin.

She is survived by her son-in-law Peter Bloomfield ( a Philadelphia-based artist and architect ), her granddaughter Jessica Bloomfield (a partner in the law firm of Holland & Knight) and her grandson Dr. Gabriel Bloomfield (a professor of English at the United States Naval Academy). She has two great-grandchildren, Piper and Zenon McAndrew. She has two loving nephews Dr. Richard Agrin and Glen Agrin as well as an extended family whom she loved dearly.

The matriarch of a large and loving family, Cindy modeled perseverance, gratitude, and humility. Her home in West Copake was a magnet for the family to gather on countless memorable occasions. She instilled in all a love of family, traditions, and a scotch with a twist . When asked the secret to a long life, the answer was simple: eat healthy, exercise, and do what you love.
