Clara Kelly Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 15, 2024.
Miss Clara Guylene Kelly (née Miller) was born and raised in the Hawkeye state, a place she felt proud to be a native of. She always liked to share various facts and stories from growing up in Des Moines to anyone she would meet. A true Midwest jewel, who eventually relocated to Seattle, Washington to join her parents, Clarence and Gloria Miller, brother Steven and sisters Patricia and Vanetta, whom all proceeded her in death, and Tyrone, Easter (Diane) and Delma, by whom she is survived.

Clara loved to travel and spend time with her family and close friends. In fact, she loved to travel by boat and train so much that she inspired her friends and family to travel too. One of her favorite trips was a trip to Disneyland with her mother, and something she would often say, "Don't wait until you're old to travel, travel while you still can move around."

She was known for her house gatherings where lots of laughter and fun was had. Her favorite spots to hang out in Seattle were Silver Fork for breakfast with her sister gals, and Vince's on Thursdays with her forever friends because it was her Friday. Clara also enjoyed bowling, dancing, going to plays and playing darts (at Vince's).

Auntie, Aunt Guylene, Aunt Guy is what she was called by her host of nieces, nephews (great & great great ). While she did not have any children of her own, she embraced her sister's kids as her own.

Guylene lived life by her means and lived it to the fullest, leaving no crumbs on the table. Her trail that she blazed will continue as the scent of her spirit remains on our hearts forever.

A memorial service in her honor will be held on May 22, 2024 at 10:00am at the Seattle Christian Church – 4402 South Graham Street Seattle, WA 98118.

The Repass will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Billy Baroo's Restaurant Tukwila Golf Course – 13500 Interurban Ave S, Seattle, WA 98168.

I remember when I went to Seattle to visit my cousins. Cousin Gloria took me to see Clarence who was very ill. It was wonderful spending time with Guylene (Clara) & the rest of the family. Seems like yesterday when we were all little & spending Thanksgiving together at Grandma Wyatt's house. I'm going to miss talking to her on the phone but we'll all be together again when Jesus comes. Love & miss you, cousin. Leslie Wyatt Funderburk, Philadelphia, PA.

I remember when cousin Gloria, Guylene and other family members came from Seattle Washington to Des Moines, Iowa to visit us one summer. It was so delightful to see them all. There was one time I recall Guylene had rode the train to Iowa. Always happy to see her whenever she would visit. That time Mount Saint Helens erupted, she called to let us know they were all safe. I will hold dearly the memories of cousin Guylene.

When I lived in Seattle Guylene would come by and take me to different scenic spots in Seattle. She visited me in San Francisco and we went to dinner.

We went to the movies with grandmother
Gloria Miller and Aunt Guylene to see Coming to America. Aunt Guylene was talking about the popcorn and how much more buttery it could have been.

I never went bowling or bingo with them, but I wanted to go especially on the cruise boats with them to Virgin Islands.

I only met Guylene twice. She had a very strong lively personality. I liked her immediately. She was an amazing woman that helped mold my wife into the amazing woman that she is. She will always hold a special 0lace in my heart because of how much my wife loved and cared for her.

My first memory of my Auntie is right after my graduation from high school she looked over at me and said 'you know a high school diploma is just that, you gotta go to college.' To some, they'd think what they did wasn't good enough, but the way she looked at me and her smile when she said it, I knew she wanted me to keep going and saw my potential. I truly loved her for that. She never held back with me. Since that moment she had been my biggest cheerleader throughout life. I'll miss our phone conversations and her telling me bits and pieces of her life stories whenever I was in town to visit.
