Dublin - Clara S. Wright, 91, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, in
Dublin, Ohio.
Born on July 4, 1934, Clara's life was a testament to purpose and compassion-a firework of spirit born on Independence Day.
She was a proud graduate of Steubenville Big Red High School, where she earned the distinction of valedictorian for the Class of 1952. Her early academic excellence set the tone for a life dedicated to purpose and service.
Throughout her life, Clara lived in several Ohio communities-including Lima, Findlay, East Liverpool, Steubenville, and Canton-where she remained actively involved and committed to improving the lives of those around her. She believed deeply that her purpose on earth was to make life better for others-a philosophy she carried with grace and determination in every community she touched.
Her mission was accomplished in many ways such as volunteering in many organizations in which she held various positions. She held memberships in Canton Fine Arts (being named as most inspiring member in 2017 and received recognition for 30 years of service), Canton Women's Club, Massillon Women's Club, Red Hat group, Lunch Bunch, Canton Garden Club, Ohio Power Retirees and Lady Shriners. She was an active member of St. Stephen Martyr Lutheran Church where she could be found every Monday as an office volunteer for more than 20 years.
Travel was a big part of her life having been around the world especially during the time when Clayton served as a managing consultant for US Aid in Lahore, Pakistan for 3 years. They also travelled extensively in the US including more Civil War battlefields than she could count. However, her fondest travel memory was vacationing at a dude ranch in the Adirondak mountains with her grandchildren.
Clara was known for being talkative and deeply engaged in every community she called home. Whether through civic involvement or personal connection, she left a lasting impression on those around her. She will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, community, faith and storytelling -- stories filled with tales of adventure, triumphant love, tough lessons learned the wrong way, hopeful endings and embellishments unimaginable. She charmed so many people with her stories and hated to leave a party.
Clara shared 63 devoted years with her beloved husband Clayton H. Wright before his passing in 2018. She carried forward their legacy through her daughters Cheryl (Bill) Costner and Deborah (Richard) Pluta. Her love blossomed further in her grandchildren: Makenzie Wofford (Cody), Madison Lockwood-Powell (Griffin), Clayton Costner, Matthew Clayton Pluta (Brianna), Adrienne Pluta, Caroline Krain (Brendan), and Cameron Pluta. The joy continued with great-grandsons Jack and Ryan Pluta.
She also held close the memory of her parents Geneva Ritchie Singer and Walter H. Singer; her brother William Otto Singer; and cherished the bond with her sister-in-law Betty Singer, who survives her.
She left behind a lot of stuff to her daughters who have no idea what to do with it. So, if you're looking for 204 Norman Rockwell plates or an equal number of Toby Mugs, you should wait the appropriate amount of time and get in touch. Tomorrow would be fine. Clara herself would have laughed out loud at this request.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Capital City Hospice for their compassionate care during Clara's final days.
A funeral service will be held at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve Military Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio where she will be laid to rest with the love of her life.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shriners Children's Hospitals in Clara's memory.
