Clarence H. Blomquist

KINGSFORD - Clarence H. Blomquist, 95, of Kingsford, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 10, 1912, in Metropolitan, the son of the late Matthew and Sanna (Gustafson) Blomquist. Clarence was in the first graduating class at Felch High School, the class of 1929. Clarence married Carolyn Busse on June 17, 1944. The couple farmed and logged until 1957. Clarence then attended the University of Wisconsin-River Falls for two years and transferred to Northern Michigan University, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1961. He received his master's degree in 1970 from NMU. Clarence taught in Hermansville, Felch, Channing, and North Dickinson Schools, before retiring in 1978. After retiring, Clarence moved to Kingsford. In the 1950s, Clarence served as the justice of the peace for Felch Township. He was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Metropolitan. He and Carolyn enjoyed traveling and visited six different continents. They were also in a bowling league. Clarence was a current member of First Covenant Church. He adored his great-grandchildren. Clarence is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn; two children, Gay (Wayne) Funderburg of Quinnesec and Gary (Cheri) Blomquist of Reno, Nev.; five grandchildren, Carianne Blomquist, Adam Blomquist, Scott Blomquist, Hope Aderman, and Tim Funderburg; three great- grandchildren, Isaac, Melody, and Grace Aderman, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lydia Blomquist and Signe Nygard, and six brothers, Edwin, Arvid, Gustav, Henry, William, and Bernard Blomquist and two grandchildren, James and Faith Funderburg. Visitation will be held tonight from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Erickson-Rochon and Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. A time of sharing will be held at 7 tonight at the funeral home. There will also be a visitation on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at First Covenant Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Peter Erickson will officiate. Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bruce Aderman, John Cootware, Bill Schneider, Chuck Schneider, David Siegler, and Dorn Siegler.
