Clarence D. Butterfield

Gail and Clar, I was just remembering your dad and the Christmas tradition of popcorn...traditions continue, just as my memories of him do. Many holiday blessings.

My heart is deeply saddened by the loss of your father. He had such a kind and gentle soul. I always looked forward to his visits to Mrs. Walker for his taxes. He never failed to stop at my desk and share a kind word with me. He always brought a ray of light and happiness that lightened the burdens of the day. I will miss him and always remember him.

Clar and Gail, It was good to talk to you (Clar) about your Dad. We will always remember the trip to Mexico, Alamagordo, and Carlsbad with both of your parents. Take care.

Although I knew him only briefly, my life will forever be enhanced from having had the chance to meet Clarence. I so enjoyed sharing BBQ ribs with him at the local rib joint. You are in my prayers and God bless you all.

Gail & Clar: I was deeply saddened to learn of your father's passing. Your Dad & Mom were wonderful neighbors to us on Portland Avenue. I remember when we'd come back from visits to our farm in northern MN and he'd see us and ask "How are the spadadoes? (potatoes)" He exuded joy and made other people feel good just to be in his presence. I will cherish his memory and his friendship for my family.

I was very sadden to hear the news of Clarence passing. I will always have fond memories of both my grandfather and Clarence sitting next to each together and not being able to tell one from the other! Twins 10 years apart! I will hold this memory close to me forever. The whole family will be in my prayers over this holiday time. Bless you Clarence.

Clar and Gail,
Your father was a kind and gentle man. The first time I met him at
church in Aurora, I knew that he would be a friend for life. Quick
witted and always ready with a story he made my place in life a little better. I will miss him dearly but we will meet again
some day.

I fondly remember Clarence the last time I saw him he came to usher in a wheelchair he still had that big smile. When I first met him he lite up the theatre lobby and he brought other ushers with him to help out with morning shows at the Orpheum. He said, "the reinforcements are here."
My thoughts and prayers are with you now.

Gail, Clar, Bruce, Kari & David;
The world is a better place now because of Clarence. A fond memory is the summer of '66 when I took a bus up to the lake in Brainerd, but rode back with Mae and Clarence. I was so tired that I slept with my eyes open so as not to let them know. They were both so kind and generous. Truly a great loss but such a gain in heaven. Just imagine the stories he's telling right now.
I'll miss his BIG BEAR HUG. A hug like no other.
Clarence, hope your journey was safe.

It was always a smiling sight to see my Grandfather, Larry, and Clarence together. Although I didn't see Clarence often, I heard about him through others in the family which made him seem closer. He will be deeply missed by countless smiling faces of those many people he touched.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I enjoyed not only seeing you with your Dad at the Theate's but also running into you at Sam's. My prayer for you is that you find comfort in your many wonderful memories of your Dad. He was a blessing to all of us who were priviledged to know him.

Clarence and my grandfather, Larry, had a spitting resemblance. I always enjoyed seeing the two of them together. He will be missed by all the hearts he touched. I will keep him close to my heart always. Bless your family.

Our deepest sympathy. I'll never tire of telling the story of Clarence on a zipline in Costa Rica. He'll forever be an inspiration not to let age get in the way of trying something new. Steve and I feel honored to have had him attend our wedding in January of 2006. He will be missed, but not forgotten.

Clar and Gail,
I will always remember when we were kids and the fun times we had visiting Uncle Clarence, Aunt Mae, and you two while we were "Up North"....and how much we enjoyed shopping when you were in the "Cities." It will never be the same without Uncle Clarence. He'll be missed. My thoughts are with you.

I KNEW OF YOUR FATHER BY THE WAY YOU ALWAYS TALKED ABOUT HIM. HE WAS A VERY SPECIAL MAN. MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU.

Clarence will be missed at our theaters. He was so much fun to work with and loved meeting all the patrons and ushers.

I will never forget the day I met Mr. Butterfield he was outside cleaning up the neighborhood. He became a regular face around my work even after we moved out of the neighborhood. I loved listening to his wise stories about the old days and his laugh. He will be greatly missed. I send my deepest sympathy to your family.

Your father was an awesome man and always brought joy and laughter to the theater. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
