ACTON, Mass. - Claudia Kay (Brewer) Karkantis, 45, formerly of Rosendale and Maryville, Mo., died unexpectedly at her home in Acton on Monday, Jan. 15, 2007.
Born in St. Joseph, Nov. 10, 1961, she was the daughter of Walter L. "Roy" Brewer, now of Plattsburg, Mo., and the late Shirley Jean (Wells) Brewer.
In 1982, she married Peter Karkantis of Myrina, Lemnos, Greece. He survives of the home, along with their children, Nickolaos and Victoria.
Kay attended schools at North Andrew and Maryville, and in Akron, Ohio. She attended Findlay College, Ohio, and held bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Akron.
Additional survivors are two sisters, Ginger Lynn Brewer, Higginsville; and Dolly Denholm and husband, Jay, Akron; three brothers, John and Jeff Brewer, Tucson, Ariz.; and K. Randall Brewer, Gilbert, Ariz.; her grandmothers, Beulah Wells and Helen Brewer, Savannah, Mo.; her aunt, Ruth Brant, Rosendale, Mo.; uncles, John B. Brewer, Stoddard, Wis.; David Brewer, Clarkston, Wash.; and Daniel Brewer, Rosendale; stepmother, Marcia Brewer, Plattsburg; two stepbrothers, Rob Bowness, Steelville; and Terence Bowness, Austin, Texas; parents-in-law, Nickolaos and Victoria Karkantis, Lemnos; and sisters-in-law, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Kay was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley; and her sister, Jerri Diane Brewer.
Visitations were held at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, Acton, on Friday, Jan. 19. A Greek Orthodox funeral service was held on Saturday, Jan. 20, at the church, with Rev. Fr. Nicholas M. Kastanas officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Acton Center.
The Claudia Kay Karkantis Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of the Middlesex Savings Bank, 577 Mass Ave., West Acton, Mass., 01720, will benefit Acton-Boxborough Regional High School students, who participate in varsity soccer, swimming or volleyball, and are continuing their education in the sciences or English.
Arrangements were by the Acton Funeral Home, Acton.
