Claudia Quinn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 19, 2024.
OGDENSBURG, New York - Claudia J. Quinn, 78, passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 in Sarasota, FL, surrounded by her loving family. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Cathedral, located in Ogdensburg, NY. Following the Mass, there will be a celebration of Claudia's life at Busters Restaurant in Ogdensburg.

Claudia was born in Albany, NY, on May 23, 1945, to Stanley and Mary (Frodyma) Zelka. She graduated from Colonie Central High School in 1963. On June 20, 1964, she married her best friend and lifetime love, Howard W. Quinn, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Loudonville, NY. Their love was a source of strength and joy for both of them throughout their lives.

They lived in Rotterdam, NY, for 15 years and then moved to Framingham, MA, where they raised their three children. Claudia dedicated over 20 years of her professional life as the Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Finance at Framingham State College.

When she and Howard retired, they purchased a winter home at Sun-n-Fun in Sarasota, Florida, where they enjoyed two decades of friendships, dances, and shows. She created the Annual NY Wine and Cheese gathering, which often included couples from multiple states and countries. She cherished time and stories with her family and friends.

In the summer, Claudia and Howard found peace at their home in Ogdensburg, NY, along the serene shores of Black Lake. Claudia loved to go out to eat and shop in Ogdensburg and enjoyed day trips to Clayton and Alexandria Bay to do the same. Their leisurely strolls and Howard's laughable antics in the yard brought them immense joy. She loved to watch the hummingbirds visit her feeder and tried desperately to keep the barn swallows from nesting on her porch.

Claudia had a deep love for reading, knitting, and crocheting. She had a habit of meticulously jotting down notes in various notebooks, often jokingly admitting she could not always remember which one she had used for a particular entry. She cherished the warmth and connection she felt during her frequent phone calls with her beloved family and friends. Her daughter Lisa, especially, will deeply miss their multiple daily conversations on the phone, highlighting the special mother/daughter bond they shared.

She was predeceased by the love of her life, Howard W. Quinn. Their love was a beacon of light for their family and friends, inspiring those around them to cherish every moment with their loved ones. Claudia is survived by her three children, Lisa (Tyrone) Little of Spencer, MA; Brian (Barbara) Quinn of Ashland, MA; and Kevin (Tara) Quinn of Holliston, MA. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Kyle, Jake, Luke, and Nick Maguire; Brianna and Brenna Quinn; Patrick, Kevin, Danny, Josie, and Tommy Quinn; and two great-grandchildren, Kourtney and Vanessa. Claudia is also survived by her sisters Sheila (Steve) Jones and Linda Zoller, her brothers Stan (Maureen) Zelka, Tom Zelka, and Jeff (Sandy) Zelka, and her dear sister-in-law Elizabeth (Fred) Helmer.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, Office of Philanthropy, 529 Main Street, 4th Floor, Charlestown, MA 02129.

Claudia will be deeply missed but will forever remain in our hearts. May she rest in peace.

It´s been a year since you went to be with Howard, and I miss you both so very much. I hold close the special times we shared and wrap those memories around my heart, knowing that one day we´ll be together again.

My heart aches without you here, but in that space, I´ve found a deeper connection with those still around me. I know you´re with us-in quiet moments, in the laughter we share, and in the love that continues to flow.

Until we meet again, I´ll keep you close in everything I do.
Love you

As far back as I remember, my sister was my star! She was always there to protect me, to make sure I was going in the right direction, ( I did needed that) concerned about my health, and of course to laugh and share so many good times.

It´s hard to pick one time, because there were so many happy and sad times we shared. One that stands out was the summer of 1965. I came to stay with Claudia after Howard was in the accident that nearly took his life. ( I was 15 yrs old at the time) Claudia would go to the hospital every day while I stayed with baby Lisa. We shed a lot of tears but had some laughs too in that dreadful time.

I also remember the time I showed up at her door at 7:00am with all my belongings and my son Derek. Claudia and Howard took me in to stay until I found my own place.

They say I followed her around, from Rotterdam to Massachusetts to sun n fun. Some of it was a coincidence, but we enjoyed their company. We had so many wonderful memories together.

My big sister, my memories will get me through, but I will miss her until the day I die. I love you Claudia!!

My most favorite memories with my sister Claudia was back in the 70's when our children were babies. Claudia and I would pack her car up with all the kids, babies, baby carriages, diaper bags and off to Mohawk Mall to shop and lunch at McDonald's. " a memory we shared together many times and laughed on how simple life was back then. Love you forever Linda

Claudia and I met on a dance floor in Woodland Hall of Sun 'n Fun, Sarasota, FL. She could line dance so well, like it was just natural. We danced side-by-side, along with good friend Phyllis. We missed Claudia when back issues prevented further dancing.
Another bonding Claudia and I had was that we both had strong, Polish heritage. We had so many of the same experiences and loved Polish food. Both of us blonde and blue-eyed, with similar tastes in clothing, we'd often shop together and surprisingly buy the same tops or pants! Talk about laughing.
Claudia and I called each other "soul sisters". Oh, I will miss her and our bond.

The most wonderful memory I have of my beautiful sister in law was the day she married my brother! She was such a beautiful princess walking down the aisle with her father that it took my breath away. That day and every day since I have been so blessed to have Claudia in my family. She was beautiful inside and out, lived a special life with my brother and the love they shared was very special. I will miss Claudia so very much, but I thank her for my gifts of my niece Lisa, and nephews Brian and Kevin and their families.
Rest in peace with your true love.
