May 27, 1935 - February 20, 2014
Claudine Allen Wharton, of Pocatello Idaho, passed away on February 20th 2014 at the age of 78, with her beloved husband by her side. She was born on May 27th 1935, to Lewis George Allen and Clara Belle Glover. She was raised and attended schools in Hawkins Basin and Downey, Idaho. She also attended Henager Business College in Utah. It was in Downey, that she met the love of her life, James Darrel Wharton. They were married on September 25th 1954 and resided in Malad for the next 3 years before moving to Pocatello. They raised 2 children, Darrel Allen Wharton and Lynette (Wharton) Battson.
She began a career doing clerical and administrative assistant work for Garrett Freight Lines and associated trucking companies for the next 35 years. She also worked in California for Dryvit Industries and in Salt Lake City for Utah Higher Education. After returning to Pocatello, she was employed by JR Simplot Company and Varsity Cleaners.
She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and faithfully served in several positions of the Meadowbrook Ward (former 27th Ward) and Pocatello North Stake, which included Young Women's Groups and Relief Society positions. The couple was married for time and eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple on May 16th 1970.
She is survived by her beloved husband James Darrel Wharton, her two children Darrel Allen Wharton of Casper, WY and Lynette (David) Battson of Inkom, ID; seven grandchildren Keith (Sandra) Wharton of Casper, WY; Scott (Lindsey) Wharton of Gardnerville, NV; Brent Wharton of Rock Springs, WY; Caitlin Hopper of Tooele, UT; Kasey, Autumn and Cassidy Battson of Inkom, ID; and her five great grandchildren Eli, McKenna, Tyler, Brooke and Camryn Wharton. She is also survived by one sister Arlene Lusk of Pocatello, ID.
She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Ralph Clayton Allen and Darrell Lewis Allen; and two sisters Sarah Louise Egan and Bernice Rowe.
The family would like to thank the staff of Alliance Home Health for their support and kindness over the last few weeks.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday February 25th at 12:00 noon in the Meadowbrook Ward building on Chapel Street in Pocatello. Friends may visit with the family on Monday evening from 6-8 pm at the church and again from 10:30 to 11:45 am prior to the service. Burial will take place at the Malad City cemetery. I have very fond memories of Claudine and the Whartons. I was always treated as family, and rarely did I deliver the newspaper to the Whartons without receiving snacks, set out for me by Claudine. Sending my love to the Whartons.
