Clayne Dice obituary

In memory of

Clayne Dice

Add memories that will last forever

Not sure what to say?

July 27, 2010

Vicki,
My wife & I were on vacation and we are sad to hear about Clayne passing away. Clayne will always be remembered. Without him, the Contemporary and Polynesian hotels would have never opened on time in October 1971. When my daughter died in an auto accident in 1974, someone said to me (and I will never forget it) and I hope it helps you, "he is just away, and we will all be together again someday."
Our best to you and your family,
Dick and Mary Nunis

Dear Vicki, Debbie & Traci:

I'm sorry I was traveling and wasn't able to pay my respects personally but please allow me to belatedly express my memory of this truly great man.

Clayne was a positive influence and a great inspiration to many hospitality workers, always willing to share his vast knowledge and experiences. I am among his many admirers having had the good fortune to know him for some 36 years or so and to be business partners with him for about 6 years often traveling together; even to Saudi Arabia. On a personal basis, there was the fun we all shared on ("Paddle or Die") TEAM DANGER. Memories galore that I will always cherish. Although many have critics, I have never heard anyone utter anything negative about Clayne Dice. In every sense of the word he was a true gentlemen and the ultimate professional. I will miss him.

With deepest sympathy,

Dear Vicki, Debbie & Traci:
I'm sorry I was traveling and couldn't pay my respects personally, but please allow me to belatedly express my memory of this great man.

Without question, Clayne was a very positive influence on many, many people. He particularly influenced and inspired many of the hotel people he came in contact with by his generosity of time and willingness to share his vast knowledge and experiences. I have known him for 34 years as a business colleague. He and I were partners for about 6 years and often travel together on business; once to Saudi Arabia. I and our fellow members of Team Danger will miss our personal relationship with him. Although most of us have our critics, I have never heard anyone utter a word against Clayne Dice. In every way, he was the kindest, nicest gentleman I have ever met and I will miss him.

With deepest sympathy,
Jack Hardin

Dear Vicki and family,I was sorry to hear of Mr. Dice's passing, may God comfort you, your family and friends at this time. I was employed at Comfort Suites from 2000 til 2004 and served the complimentary breakfast until we moved to Live Oak. He was so enlightened by the little extras his guests received and to see him smile about what we did brought us so much joy. He knew it set our hotel apart from the others and the guests would remember their visit for years to come. I would like to say thank you Clayne Dice for letting me be the Easter Bunny, letting us wear green wigs, carve pumpkins and decorating with of course BALOONS,but most of all his Open Door policy. He will be missed by all but never forgotten. If there is a hotel in Heaven I know God put Clayne Dice in charge.

I had known Clayne back from 1971-72, when he was the General Manger of the Polynesian. I was one of the original employees of the Contemporary Resort Hotel and had the opportunity to know and work with him in those early days before WDW opened to the public in October, 1971. I am so sorry to hear of his passing, as he was not only well liked by those from WDW at the time, but also well respected by everyone in both hotels. My sincerest condolences to the Dice family.

Mr. Dice, or Dad, as I called him, always made me feel like I was one of his children. He always had time for all of the kids coming and going in and out of his house. He taught me how to play chest and he and my Best Friend, his daughter, Traci, taught me to like musicals. Dad I am greatful to have had you in my life. A wonderful and great man, you are, and will be missed until we are reunited with you and the Lord. I Love You! God Bless you and your family, always!! Lori Ferreira

Uncle Clayne was my favorite Uncle. He was an inspiration and role model to me throughout my childhood and adult life, and his success story is the classic American dream. His presence in our lives was a true treasure, and his family and friends stand as a true testament to his love and devotion. He had the unique ability to make life fun for all of us - both when we were young and even when we were only young at heart. I will always remember getting the red carpet treatment all around Disney and Orlando - being Clayne Dices' neice was big time! He was so patient teaching me to waterski, and got a good laugh when I couldn't get out of that straight jacket he had! I wish I could be there with you all. Uncle Clayne- we love you and miss you, and will always try to live up to your bright light.

Vicki and family, we are so sorry for your loss. You and Mr. Dice have always been so caring and kind to so many. When I felt alone and was in a difficult situation – you both made sure that I was alright. God blessed both of you with hearts of gold and sincerity. I will always be grateful to you and your family! Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with all of you.

Clayne was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. I was impressed that he always treated everyone with the same level of respect, no matter what their role or station in life. He truly made everyone feel like "family". He'll be missed and his legacy will live on in the lives of everyone he touched.

Friends and Family,

It is with sadness that we hear of Clayne's death. Tourism has lost a true pioneer and a great friend. He was always a Gentleman first and then business. As I read his obituary, fond memories come to mind and put a smile on my face. Thank You Clayne. SKAL!
May you rest in peace.

Vicki,Debbie, and Family: I first met Clayne in 1975,while working at the Court of Flags with Victor.Little did I know how instrumental Clayne would become in my life.Because of Clayne's recommendations I was able to climb the ladder in the hospitality industry.I worked for Clayne at a number of properties over the years. In 1986 Clayne contacted me and asked me to come to work for him at Comfort Suites. He said he was putting together what he called the A-Team.Well the A-Team consisted of Tom Davis,PH,Mike Gush,Nicole and myself.Clayne's expertise and ability to motivate the people around him ,turned a flegling property into the best Choice Hotels had to offer. Not only did Clayne win the gold award the Hotel was chosen Inn of the year. Clayne was the BEST and motivate his people to be the best. All who worked with Clayne had the highest respect for him. Mr. Dice. I know the Lord will have a big project waiting for you. I only can hope you have spot for me on your new A-Team I will miss you greatly. Mike Meaney

I was with heartfelt sadness that I learned of Clayne Dice passing. Clayne, was a wounderful friend. It was a privilege to have known him , I will never forget his thoughtfulness and kindness.

Clayne was one person the truly made one proud to be a part of the hospitality industry. He was a GENTLEman and a gentleman. Clayne and I worked together on Hilton Inn marketing projects and years later would reminisce at industry meetings about the "good old days!" He was a true friend and a joy to know. My best to the family during this difficult time, but don't you know Clayne will be among great company on this his next adventure. All the best. Lloyd Miller

Family and Friends:

"For this is what the High and Lofty One, who is residing forever and whose name is holy, has said: "In the height and in the holy place is where I reside, also with the one crushed and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly ones and to revive the heart of the ones being crushed." Isaiah 57:15
May all of you receive a healing of the heart, by Almighty God, thru Jesus Christ our Lord.
