I remember the General with fond memories and how he tried to start up AMS. I remember the visits to his home and was in awe of the stories and the memorabilia in the basement office. I remember how he tried to help me through a time of difficulty... The General will be sadly missed by the many whose lives he touched

Condolences to his family and friends. General Beattie was a very strong and dedicated leader who I was honoured to serve under in Cyprus Jan-Jul 1975. Definitely a Comanding General who was known and respected by both sides and military and UN leaders.

What a soldier! was priviliged to co-author "The Bulletproof Flag" with Clay It is the story of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974 and the Canadian Airborne soldiers that came under Gen Beattie's command. We pent a year together working on the book a time in my life that I treasure.

My memories of Clayton remain strong even though other memories fade around me. I remember him as a child. He was much like his mother Maude who was the 'original' Peacekeeper. I remember her being able to smooth over anything Edgar, Donald, Clayton, Marilyn and myself could get tangled up in. He learned the importance of family, and making sure that those who loved him KNEW that they were also loved. He was a wonderful son, grandson, father, husband, brother, cousin, military member and friend. He was very special to me, and will be missed.

Dear Aunt Kay, Jocelyn, Karen, and Aunt Marlyn,
I am so sorry for the passing of my dear Uncle Clayton. The first time I remember meeting him, I was somewhat afraid of him because he was all dressed up in his military uniform and looked quite imposing to a kid. I could tell though, even at 10 years old that he was an man of obvious importance. Throughout the years I came to know the man not just the uniform. I don't think I could have found a more loving and kind man if I tried. And here he was, related to me (albeit distantly). I know he occupied a very special place in my mom's (Lois's) heart, and was the topic of many a conversation. Watching how he lived his life with honesty and integrity and compassion has been a guide for me and the way I live my life. I am so very proud to have been able to call him family. He was a great man, and will be missed by all of us.

My condolences to Kay and your family on the loss of Clayton. I served on the Alumni board at Carleton University with Clayton and knew him as a youngester on Cambridge street in Ottawa. Also he gave me great advice when I joined the military and after when I was a manager in the Federal Gov. Science Branch. A great friend he will be sadly missed.

HE PASSED OUR WAY
He passed our way a soldier, his name we'll not forget.
He marched to tunes of glory, with the cadence of a vet.
While pipers play their chanters, their drones make mystic sounds.
Their tune, an ode to soldiers, who'd fight on foreign ground.
His pace was slow and steady, a metronome to sound.
He marched to tunes of glory,
He served on foreign ground.
His battles now are over, he'll hear our pipes no more.
He's marching to Valhalla, a far and distant shore.
He'll rest there in Valhalla, where the sun will always shine.
Where mist clings to the mountains, until the end of time.
Where pipers play their chanters, and drones make mystic sounds.
And tunes are played for soldiers, who served on foreign ground.
"May you rest by the side of your Lord"
