Clement Violette Obituary

Clement A. Violette, Jr., 74, of Poughkeepsie, NY, and formerly of West Hartford, passed away Monday (March 3, 2003) at the Yale-New Haven Hospital after a courageous battle of strength and endurance. Born February 24, 1929 in Hartford, he was a son of the late Clement and Agnes (Pinkham) Violette, Sr. Mr. Violette joined the U.S. Navy on Feb. 27, 1946 and served his country on the USS Thomas E. Fraser DM24 as a UDT Petty Officer 3rd Class during World War II. Upon his return, Mr. Violette attended Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Trade School for his certifications. He then joined the Hartford Police Dept. in March of 1954, serving as a police officer until April of 1955, when he went on to the Hartford Fire Dept. until January of 1959. Mr. Violette then started his own business, AETNA Refrigeration, serving local restaurants in Hartford before moving to Poughkeepsie in the early 1970's, and continued his trade until last year. Survivors include his loving daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Robert Lang (USN Ret.) and his granddaughter, Ashley Lang, all of Hebron; a sister, Kathleen Wolfe of Miami, FL; his former wife, Patricia Violette of West Hartford; and numerous extended family members and friends from both the Hartford and Poughkeepsie areas. He was sadly predeceased by a daughter, Susan A. Violette of West Hartford on Oct. 28, 2002, his last wife, Mary E. Violette of Poughkeepsie on Oct. 13, 2002; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Joseph Burgess; and his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Jan Violette. Friends may call Saturday (March 8th) starting at 10 a.m. before an 11 a.m. Memorial Service at the Aurora-McCarthy Funeral Home, 167 Old Hartford Road, Colchester. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated physicians and exceptional nursing staff of the CTIC Unit at Yale for the love and commitment shown to Mr. Violette over the past three months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Yale New Haven CTIC Unit, West Pavilion (WP3), 20 York Street, New Haven 06504.
