Charles Hardesty Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 21, 2015.
Charles R. "Chuck" Hardesty
January 29, 1954 - January 18, 2015
Chuck Hardesty of Nampa, Idaho passed away at home with his family by his side on January 18th after a long and arduous battle with cancer. He was born on January 29,1954 to the late Bus Hardesty and Verla Hardesty. He was educated in Nampa and graduated from Nampa Senior High in 1972. After pursuing a golf career in Moses Lake and returning to Nampa to work at Broadmore Country Club and Plantation golf course he then began his career with Union Pacific Railroad in 1975 and soon after became a Locomotive Engineer. He met Debbie Clark at Broadmore Country Club where they were both employed. They were married on October 30,1976. The first of their three beautiful daughters, Coye was born in November of 1978. Britney joined the family in January of 1982, followed by McKinley in September of 1985. Chuck retired from Union Pacific in 2008. As a young boy he enjoyed Boy Scouts with his dad as Troop Leader and baseball with his dad as coach. The two of them went on numerous camping trips with whatever friend was lucky enough to get to go with them. He and his cousin Tom Wickham were joined at the hip and were involved in everything from shenanigans to running their own very successful lawn mowing service. People called for years after looking for those two to take care of their lawns. During his lifetime Chuck pursued and mastered many interests and hobbies including wood working, archery hunting, painting in oil and water colors, rock hounding, bass fishing and golf. His true loves were fishing and golf. He spent 15 years or more fishing in bass tournaments around this region and right here at home on Lake Lowell, winning more than a dozen tournaments and countless trophies. In recent years he enjoyed fishing Henry's Lake with his brother-in-law Manuel. Chuck played golf from high school up until recently when his health would permit. He was a gifted golfer. If you were lucky enough to get to hit the links with him it was like watching poetry in motion. He played golf tournaments all over the valley and especially loved the skins games at Purple Sage golf course. One of his last rounds of golf was with his good friend Joe Rasmussen. He shot 39 on the front and then had 4 birdies, 2 eagles and a par before getting blown off the course and didn't get to finish. That's a good day. Chuck adored his family and his two grandchildren, Amya and his "little buddy" Aiden. He is survived by his mother, Verla Hardesty, his wife Debbie, three daughters, Coye, Britney, McKinley, two grandchildren, Amya and Aiden, three sisters, Sheryle Laursen of Nampa, Charlene Nelson (Rob) of Boise, and Kim Barrera (Manuel) of Pocatello and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Chuck's family would like to thank St. Luke's Hospice for their kindness, compassion and care of our brother. There will be an open house on January 24th from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Hardesty home. 515 W Benton, Nampa.

Dear Debbie and Family: You don't know me, but I'm one of those many "rails" who Chuck worked with over the years. I am so very sorry to hear of his passing and will remember his infectious laugh always...remember, there are always rails, or ex-rails(if there is such a thing) willing to help, if you should need it. That's the smile I remember! You were the only engineer that let me behind the throttle (railroad lingo) the whole trip to LaGrande OR maybe that was a "nightmare"? No more pain. Love Ya...Durk

Dear Debbie. Can't say that our lives have crossed since high school but you married your high school sweetheart as I did and now both have passed at way to early of an age. Bruce in 2010 and now Chuck. We thought we would grow old with them. So sorry for your hurting heart at this time. I felt that sting and it doesn't feel good. But we are strong women and you too have a life ahead of you. One day at a time. Go slow.

I will never forget the memories we had together. He was there for me when times were tough, and believed in me more than anyone. I love you forever Chuck! You will be sorely missed from all your friends and family. I hope we can reunite in the after life because without you it's just not the same. My condolences go to his wife and kids, but I know he is looking down on them.

Debbie; my sincere sympathies are with you at this time. After reading Charles' obituary I wish I had known him. I have always loved trains and it would have been wonderful to know an engineer. I too had a lawn care company for 22 years and I'm sure we could have shared a lot. It's sad that we haven't really seen much of each other since we both lived on the farm in Woodbridge. But my heart is with yours at this very difficult time - much love to you and your family!

To all the hardesty family, deepest sympathy for your loss. I never got to know Chuck well, but he certainly had good taste in women (you), is being remembered with love by friends and family alike, and I hope you all have wonderful memories that you'll be able to cherish forever. If it's some small consolation, he may be physically gone, but remember that you'll always be able to 'feel' his presence. Love and deepest sympathy during this very sad time. Kris

One of the best times of my life was Chuck teaching me to bass fish. I enjoyed each and every adventure. As we went to many different lakes and reservoirs. It was wonderful to enjoy all the places I would have not been able to see if it was not for Chuck. We also had long talks about ,life, work and every thing under the sun. Tho your interest grew a part in later years. I will always feel fortunate to have know and been his friend.

Sending so much love to our second family. My childhood was so amazing because I was able to spend it surrounded by the love of the Hardestys. I hope our Daddies are catching big beautiful fish up above.
