Cleone Doane Fundurulic

Cleone Roof Doane Fundurulic, age 91, of Elmira, passed away Thursday morning, May 19, 2016 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Cleone was born March 5, 1925 in Potterville, Orwell Township, Pa., to Ottie and Martha Roof.

She is predeceased by husbands, William F. Doane and Frank J. Fundurulic; son, Edward Doane; grandchild, Bridget Blunt; siblings, Betty Brotzman and Carol Light; daughter-in-law, Betty Doane; and good friend, Joyce Van Deventer. Survivors include siblings, Mildred Roof Brown, Donald (Betty) Roof, Barbara Roof Tate, Carlton (Harriett) Roof, Janice Roof Hadlock, Marsha Doane, Theresa Douglass, Loretta (Donald) Savey; children, Larry (Joy) Doane of Elmira, N.Y., James (Madeleine) Doane of Granville, N.Y., Vicky Fundurulic (Steve) Watkins of Irving, Texas, Gerald Doane and Leona Kinner Abplanalp of Big Flats, N.Y., Nancy Chapman of Rome, Pa., and Steve (Bridget) Doane of Elmira, N.Y.; grandchildren, Lisa (Steve) Mosier, Valerie LaLonde, Jolynn (Tom) Morgan, Belynda (Adam) Morse, James (Angela) Doane, Gregory (Sarah) Doane, Austyn and Blake Hosley, Collin Hall and Anthony Fierro, Cleone Doane, Colin Doane, Julie Chapman, Jason Chapman, Clifford Hall, Amanda Hall, Christina Doane and Ashley Doane; great-grandchildren, Sean, Sydney, Spencer and Edward Mosier, Brendan and Lauren Morgan, Gavin and Kaden Morse, Garrett Chapman, McKenzie and Mason Chapman, Joshua, Vanessa and Heather Saunders.

To her siblings she was the 'caretaker' and 'Big Sis,' as she helped to take care of seven younger siblings during the Great Depression and WWII. She was employed at the Sylvania plant in Towanda, Pa., during WWII, and Sayre Lingerie, Iszards, C & K Laundry and Loblaws in Elmira, N.Y., during her life. She retired from Loblaws in 1977. To her children she was the strong caring mother who did 'the best she could,' which was more than anyone could ask. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of taking rides in the country; country music concerts; picnics and family reunions; and of course visits from her family. She had a love of parades especially the Laurel Parade. One of her favorite places to visit was Rehoboth Beach, Del.; and she also enjoyed traveling taking in the spectacular beauty of our country.

The family will welcome relatives and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. Cleone's funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 23, 2016 at Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, with Rev. Bob Martin. Interment will be held immediately following at Rome Cemetery, Rome, Pa. A gathering after the service is planned, with the location to be determined. Arrangements are by Kevin R. Sullivan.
