I was Cliff's secretary at State Farm and remember how kind and gentle he was. He was so proud of his family and I know he will be greatly missed but there will be wonderful memories. Thoughts and prayers for your family.

Cliff was the Fire Company Division Manager when I started with State Farm in 1967. I remember him as a kind, compassionate but firm leader. He was a great man in my book. My condolences to the family.

Cliff will be so greatly missed here at TigerPlace. His gentle spirit and sincere kindness is something we all strive for but it just came naturally to Cliff. Peace be with all the family and know that Cliff is watching from above.

Cliff was the man who hired me to come to Columbia. I will always appreciate the opportunity he presented to me. He was a truly great man and a wonderful person to work for. I will always remember him with great fondness and respect for he surely earned that from all his interactions with the people who knew and loved him.

Cliff truly was a member of "generation great". A compassionate leader who inspired, motivated, and guided others. He will be greatly missed but he left his mark on so many that his legacy continues. It was a honor and pleasure to have known him.

Because you raised such a wonderful person in Steve, he chose an amazing bride, Connie, and they blessed me with one of the best friends a girl could ask for, Sarabeth. Thank you for being their fearless leader, role model and patriarch....enjoy your eternal dance with Mimi in the most joyful place imaginable...Heaven is lucky to have you....

For three years I lived across the street from Cliff in Harlingen, TX., part of the years while LaVonne was still had her good health. I recall the daily warm greetings we would share as we waved to each other. LaVonne hired me to clean up the paint from the garage floor during my early days of being neighbors so I had to do a good job to impress Cliff. Well it helped. I appreciated the stories Cliff shared with me of his Army days and later at Camp McCoy in Sparta, WI which is only about 25 miles from where I now live in Onalaska, since I am a veteran of the Navy. He shared with me one of his favorite restraurants in Harlingen. We got to know the lady who was the owner of the restraurant, Sopa. I got to drive Cliff and LaVonne over to a couple of parties that Sopa invited us to. I remember Cliff asked me to drive him to the Vet because he had to put his earlier dog "down" as the dog had gotten old and physically in bad shape. As we were driving to and from the Vet clinic,Ciff shared with me countless stories of his dog who I forgot the name. I felt I could have written a book about the many races and other events Cliff and his dog experienced over the years. An angel sent another dog Rusty who had showed up mysteriously one day in there front yard some months before this day. So now Rusty's job was now Cliff's sole wingman/protector of which he did an honorable job. I will always remember his warm smile. He was a fun guy! Thanks for sharing Popi with the rest of us! And may Cliff's spirit continue to be with you the rest of your days!

Shortly after joining State Farm, I was traveling from Salina, KS to Bloomington, IL. I stopped overnight in Columbia, MO. The weather was sub-zero and my car would not start that Sunday morning. I went to church and prayed for an idea of what to do about my situation. In walks Cliff Custin and I knew my prayer had been answered. I borrowed a pool car that Sunday afternoon and headed for Bloomington. All thanks to answered prayer. RIP Mr. Custin.
